Corpus Christi, also known as the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, is a significant feast in the Catholic Church. It is celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday or, in some places, on the following Sunday. The feast honors the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, which is a central tenet of Catholic belief.
The origins of Corpus Christi date back to the 13th century. It was inspired by the visions of St. Juliana of Liège, a Belgian nun who had a deep devotion to the Eucharist. She received visions in which Christ expressed his desire for a feast dedicated to his Body and Blood in the Blessed Sacrament. In 1264, Pope Urban IV established Corpus Christi as a universal feast for the Church with the papal bull "Transiturus de hoc mundo."
