I considered the C8 but decided I had to stay with a C7. Why? Simply because I love the C7 3LT Z51 and, most important, I have a place for my 20 pound dog. The hatchback is perfect and that design still says sports car.

JP.. Turns out I just picked up a used C7 exactly like yours but with black calipers. By the same I mean color, 3LT, Z51. Car only had 1350 miles on, owned by a 82 year old guy who traded it in because his C8 finally arrived. I know this probably sounds like a lead of bull, but it is totally true. I had a low mileage C6 that I traded and have to say this car is many powers of 10 better then the C6. I absolutely love the car to look at and drive. This is a keeper for sure!!!

Nicely done. Couldn't agree more with your take. I never would've imagined myself behind the wheel of a Corvette. I'm a huge Porsche fan and have owned three 911s and a Cayenne. But once I got behind the wheel of the C7 I was blown away; so capable, so fast, so well engineered. Then I started reading the reviews and it was game over. I've now owned my Stingray for a year and still get a thrill every time I fire her up. Best car I've ever owned. P.S. I hope you took advantage of the Corvette Driving School--so much fun! Two days of hard track driving and instruction. Kudos to Chevy all around.

Thanks man. It's crazy how rigid the C7 is. Even with the top off you feel very little body flex (if any). You'll enjoy it once you have a chance to take it off. The interior was a huge deal for me too. That was literally the single biggest complaint I had about my C6.

Hi JP. Congratulations on your new Vette! I have a 2017 Camaro SS and love it. Here are some of my observations. Some are described below. The Camaro has a monster engine. I live in the mountains of SoCal and the engine is so powerful that I only get the pedal to the floor when there is at least 150 yards between corners. On the plus side, it causes the driver to really focus on amount of throttle exiting the apex. I am currently in the market to add a 911 to my garage so I can more fully use the bottom 1/3 of the accelerator. My Camaro is a Great car. Easy to work on and cheap OEM parts. Only gripe? Chev needs to offer the A10 transmission in all LT-1 powered cars. Chevy vs Porsche dealer service? Chevy uses anybody to work on their cars. Porsche are ASE techs only. At 10K miles I took the car to the dealer to change the trans fluid. Against my direct request, they changed the engine oil also (4 oil changes come free with the car). Last week I was prepping my car for a trip and went to change the oil. The oil pan bolt was torqued to 100 lb/ft. I decided to check the filter before draining. The filter was on so tight that I snapped the oil filter wrench trying to remove the filter. Off to the dealer. Still love my Camaro!

Those are some great points James, good quick review of your Camaro too! They have really improved the look of the Camaro over the years, such an aggressive looking car. The auto transmission in the Corvette needed a lot of work from 2014, they helped it out some in 2015 by adjusting a few things, but it's still not as close to the PDK as Chevy would like to believe I don't think. That's a good point on the techs at the Chevy and Porsche dealers as well. Thanks for watching!

I owned two C6 both 2013 one was a GS. No doubt that they were real head turners. Now I'm driving my second Porsche Cayman 2014 base. Whereas the C6 was a sledgehammer when driving at a high level I find the Porsche to be like a surgeon scalpel. The 436 hp was just to much to drive the C6 in a reasonable performance and safely. The Cayman on the other hand is a pure delight to drive at top level. Always surefooted and confident. As had been often said the Porsche Cayman maybe the best sports car regardless of price in the world.

walter barber that is a great way to describe the difference between the C6 and the Cayman. That 2013 GS is one of the smoothest and sleek designs IMO. If the interior would have been a little better I might have looked more at the C6.

Congratulations on your new car JP, looks awesome! Having driven a new Z06 and multiple cayman and 911's I can say that I prefer the driving experience of the Porsche, but as you put it so well, the value proposition of the corvette is basically unbeatable. Seems like you guys are lucky enough to daily these cars where you live because of the weather, but whereas I'm stuck up in new england AWD was a priority for me, hence why I decided on the Audi S3. However I did manage to swing an older Boxster to give me a taste of the RWD spirit. It's no corvette, but sure is sweet in the twistys. Enjoy!

Now where was I able to even closely enjoy the performance of these cars due to road conditions traffic ,Law enforcement. Not to mention weather conditions also. A real disappointment for Car guys. Now I live in Northern California where the right roads are abundant and close by. I bought my 2014 Base Cayman in late February and have put almost 7000 miles of driving nirvana on the clock. Michael Vuong Thanks for watching and commenting! If a full leather interior is your choice, be sure to checkout the 3LT. It features a full leather dash, doors, seats, as well as a nice sueded upper half of the car. 2014 the 3LT didn't color match the entire dash, but from 2015+ you should fine it more consistent with a single color dash. I actually just trade in my 2014 Corvette 3LT Z51 with MRC 7MT for a 2015 Porsche Cayman S with Sport Chrono Package and PDK. (Background: I drive car both for daily and track days) I must admit C7 has classic v8 engine and great American V8 exhuast sound. It also really comfortable to drive daily, plus everyone on the road will be attractive with the exterior design. HOWEVER, the overall quality from Chevy is not something you can expect too much from. During the one year ownership of this car (I purchased pre-owned.), The One headlight broken, touch screen flash black, and speaker in the passenger side door keep chattering when base sound playing. In addition, the 7- speed manual transmission feels not good, I have to push really hard to make it engage into gear. But overall, if you just want something very fast and not considering handling, C7 is really great choice for how much money you pay. In comparison, when I first time sit into a cayman s, I feel like I'm driving a race car. Rarely feel body roll in cayman s and the low driving position and instant shift with PDK (I also test drive the Porsche manual before, even the manual in Porsche, is feeling really extraordinary. You just throw it to gear you want it goes to, and it will get engaged quickly and easily). But of course, All these are my personal experience, everyone would have their own choice.

Great video. I’m 5 years away from retirement and my 2 choices have come down to a C7 manual 2LT non Z51 or a Lexus RC F I’ll have plenty of time to test drive both. The reliability of a Lexus has drawn me to an RCF although a C7 manual is very reliable also. Right now my decision will be C7. Either one I’ll be looking for a one owner low mileage well maintained taken care of model. Whichever I choose it will be my 2nd car. I own a 2002 Lexus ES 300 with 169k miles. (I’m 2nd owner). This will last me 10+ years and I plan on keeping it that long.

Yes the interior can’t come close to the fit and finish of a C7 but that’s ok. I love the looks of the C5, I plan on upgrading the seats and upgrade all lights to HID and LED. Possibly exhaust too. Looking at getting a low to mid range mileage. Definitely not less than 20k miles.

The GS is such a mean looking car! I think if you have a specific number in mind you could find a mix of highly optioned Z51 Stingrays vs. the 1LT/2LT Grand Sport. It all depends on what you want. Buying used will make that Mag Ride suspension a little cheaper vs new (since options don't hold their value as well in used market). I have the magnetic ride suspension on mine and it does well. You can tell the difference even in normal driving conditions on a fairly rough road when going from, say touring to sport or track. The real benefits come with spirited driving along the backroads, it stiffens up and stays planted. Keep us in the loop when you make that Corvette purchase!

Can you talk about your choice between coupe and convertible as well as auto and manual?
@JPandCompany
7 жыл бұрын
Tony Oliver I've always preferred the look of the coupe versus a convertible. With the removable roof in the C7 I can get most of the convertible "feel" without having an actual convertible. Though the convertible C7 is more rigid than the C6 Coupe if I'm recalling my facts correctly. On the auto v. manual, I was always aiming for a manual. The automatic transmission in the C7's were not that responsive when compacted to there competition. It wasn't until a few years into the model that they improved responsiveness enough to truly "compete" with some of the more quick changing autos (Porsche basically).

Fine video, now can finally buy American cars in italy as mustang and camaro, corvettes, next year when they will finally have my eyes I can go back to drive and only want american cars, I find the aesthetically interesting ones much more interesting than European cars like the body, the American V8 engines are famous for their duration, at least 5 times more than the European ones, I think I will start with a convertible base corvette and as a second car for the family a mustang or camaro always convertible, I wanted to ask you If you recommend the corvette as a daily car, I generally do about 60-70 thousand km (37000-44000 miles), as you said that in ecomode consumption is about 28-30 mpg that turned into km / l is inside My budget and I noticed that maintenance costs are significantly lower than the German and Italian sports cars also chrysler is very present on my territory. As a last question I saw that we are physically similar (and we use the same type of shirts), I wanted to ask if with our physicist the corvette that is very low is comfortable enough to get up and down, I guided one in the 90's of a friend But between that model and the present there is a huge difference. Thanks for any reply and cordial greetings

Thanks for watching and the questions. The Corvette as a daily driver could be done, but in my situation I prefer the weekend cruise or a road trip every now and again. I use a different vehicle for my daily driver. The 28-30 mpg is approachable for highway travel and freeways. In the city with stop lights, traffic, etc, you will likely get closer to 22-24 in my experience. If you drive aggressively it could drop a few mpg's. As you can tell from the video, I love my car and would recommend it!

Thanks for the answer Mister JP, I think next year I will also have a fantastic American supercar with which to shop and see the most beautiful places in southern Europe when I will surely send you a few photos and some movies to understand Even what are the differences between the corvette destined for the European market and the American market, such a mythical car is all my life and when I can no longer drive it I will give it to my grandchildren. Do not worry I have a quiet ride and will hardly come to 2mpg because a car is so precious to treat it badly and also because the police in Italy are just very strict with those who go out of the way, sometimes I can give gas to germany where there are no Limits in the autobahn when I go there for work but I will hardly get it to the maximum power because I'm too old now to make the bad guy :) Ciao

You could DIY any of the maintenance so I disagree with your opinion. You wouldnt need to replace rotors on the GTR so again I disagree and would easily change out the pads. Rotors wont come into play until 50k to 100k miles.. You would never need to replace GTR calipers.

I havent driven it for several months because I am in your US Army and going back overseas. I will do a video once I pick it up. It is extremely fun, but its a full race car. Its loud and you will smell like exhaust because it has no catalytics. I totally agree thats your opinion/choice if you wanted to change rotors or pads and calipers. Im just saying; fact is that would not be necessary. Also most people who have Corvettes dont daily them and wont likely burn tires as fast. My Vette for example only has 56k miles and its not a daily. After you modify it to this level you go through so much ups and downs of things breaking you wont have reliability for a while.

Here is the main downside you missed about the Corvette C7s, they are a dime a dozen. I see about 10+ of these DAILY all driven by guys 45 years of age +. It's as if they are all clones of each other. Don't get me started on how many I see at public car shows like Cars & Coffee. Other than the "EVERYONE'S DAD HAS ONE" factor, it's a great car for the money though.
@JPandCompany
7 жыл бұрын
Soren Lausen Thanks for watching! I think the "dime a dozen" thought really bothers some people, for me it's wasn't an issue. The redesign has helped draw interest from the younger generation, which was something Chevrolet had to do in order to continue to keep the corvette relevant. Sales figures were falling near the end of the C6's, but they double in 2014 following the release of the C7. As long as they keep pushing I believe the age of the buyer will continue to skew younger.

Soren Lausen lol.... when I was a kid and the Corvette became my dream car, one of my life goals was to own a Corvette, BEFORE I turned 30... because I always felt like the only people I saw driving corvettes were in their late 40s and older. I wanted to be young and truly enjoy the vehicle. I didn't accomplish that milestone, but it's still on my bucket list to own one... As for c7s being a dime a dozen, I do see a lot of them so the exclusivity is not that high on the vehicle.... I guess bc I love the vehicle so much, I just love seeing them. however, I ended up buying a Camaro a couple yrs ago bc its the closest thing to a Corvette that I can afford😢...... and I see those things all over the road...
