Very nicely done video. Nice explanation and examples. I don't even have a Corvette, but was fascinated by this unique system that apparently only Corvettes have. Thanks

This is news to me. I just inherited a Corvette(father was major vette nut) and didn't know about the opening door. I thought my father hid the wipers for show car related purposes.

FYI... Vacuum does not leak out. The air is leaking from outside of the car into the low pressure vacuum area (lines/valves).

Good luck getting a replacement Wiper Control Valve, or as you call it later in the video, Wiper Safety Valve. Actually, per the Chevrolet Chassis Manual, figure 84, it is called the Interlock Valve (actuated by the wiper linkage - the right wiper arm). Unless Dave, a gentleman in the USA has started producing the Interlock Valve, you can’t find one that functions correctly. The source for all the a Corvette parts vendors was offshore, and they are all defective. You seem to have found a good one, perhaps Dave is making them in quantity now. Thank you Dave if that is your valve now being supplied.

So if you still check in and see this, I am about to put the new switch in my 69 also as my problem was a bit different, the door started closing before the wipers were all the way down. Someone told me the switch can be adjusted by a bolt near the switch. So as I looked for this bolt, which I never found LOL, I noticed the rubber on the top of the switch was rotted and split. I turned the wipers on, which by the way the door stayed open pulling the override under the dash, and guess what popped up when the wipers went on. The rubber was so rotten the spring inside pushed out. So about to replace it. Also going to go ahead and replace the check valve whether it needs it or not. I believe that will solve the door issue for me, I hope..

I guess my question would be since you have already done this and probably more familiar with the whole door operation, I have not heard good things with the reproduction switch and GM Delco no longer makes them. Any troubles with yours? Second a little different question but another issue you also may have dealt with is my door and the grill seems to have shifted and dropped meaning I all the sudden have less than 1/8 gap on the driverside and probably 3/8 on the passenger. All the screws and bolts are still in place and nothing is broken so what do you think, can the door and grill move back and forth on that rod that goes from side to side and can it be tapped back with a hammer and chisel? Hoping that is possible as looking at removing some of those old screws and taking the door off is not a good idea. Height wise I think I will just use small washers between the mount and grill unless there is a simpler way to adjust the height. I imagine the door will sit fine wherever the grill lip is and do see 2 adjustment screws for the tilt. Any info you or anyone can share before I jump in would be great.

Mine has been working fine. I have heard that there was a bad batch of the reproduction switch so be careful. I also used washers for the heights. It was a challenge to keep them in place while putting in the small bolts. I did not have a problem with the sides. However, I did notice it was possible for the plastic door spacers (or installed backwards) to fall out causing the door to shift side to side? Also, check the screws that mounts to the firewall.

Hi! Thanks for the video. Would you proceed in the same manner if the wiper door opens up after cranking the car and stays up? Mine only goes down when car is off and I press on it manually. Comes right back up after cranking car again. Thank you! Great work!
@TheWhatisright

Yes, I would. Also, you could have a vacuum leak somewhere. Check all the components I mentioned in the video. Also, look at the vacuum hose going from the back of the intake manifold to the transmission. That vacuum line sometimes goes bad or comes off. It is often overlooked because of its location. Hope this helps.

Hi! The culprit is the actuator (low to no vacuum). On my model, it is larger than the one in your video as mine is an early 69 model. It is what is often called the tin can. Have you had experienced with this kind? I am having issues removing the seal close to where the green hose attaches by the "arm". At first glance, it doesn't look like it can be removed/replaced. Can it?Thanks again for your help and time!

Looks at the easy stuff first. Can you hear and air escaping? Check all vacuum likes for leaks. Check the Vacuum Filter and check valve. Also, one thing people forget to check for possible air leaks is the vacuum line going to the Transmission (TH400).

I will make a video on how to do this in the next few days. Bottom line is, there are three adjustments you can make. One with a Phillips screwdriver and two with a 5/16 socket or wrench. All adjustments would be made the same for each side of the wiper door. The adjustment are under the door on the far left and right sides near the window. Video will be out soon friend.
