Cory's speech reminds me of some zealous pentecostal preacher midway through a worship set, but then he goes full televangelist.

No one is talking about Kevin G. That piano is SICK! Cory seems to be one of the most humble band leaders, letting others solo and shine. He sits in the back smiling and glowing in others’ glory!

This song always gets me. I know the speech in the middle turns into a bit of a goof, but it truly lifts me up every single time. It always shows up on shuffle or now in my feed at just the right time. A little while after it first was released I was walking around a park in my neighborhood listening to the album. I had just moved to a city that I grew up near but wasn't really familiar with. I was starting a new job and was having a hard time. Right as Cory's solo kicked in during the speech I walked over a hill and the sun started shining right on me. It was such a beautiful moment I almost started to cry because I got this overwhelming feeling like everything was going to work out. Cheesey I know, but 100% real. Even listening to it now in the middle of covid, and unrest against rampant systematic racism, I still get that same feeling. Damn Cory rocks.

I've watched enough of Cory's videos to know that while this message is delivered in a loveable, goofy way, he's speaking his truth. There are very few people who can articulate this rampant, encompassing enthusiasm for each person's personal capability, but even fewer who can articulate that message behind a bumping grove. Cory is a national treasure!

I used to say "There are no guitar heroes any more". The last ones I loved were Hendrix, BB King, Clapton, Blackmore and a few others. Then nothing. Then came Derek Trucks. And then nothing again. But then came Cory Wong, and the sun is shining brightly into my mind every day!! :-)
