It's more common outside of the city centers, since people who live in the densly populated places don't really shop for lots of things at once. Houses aren't really designed with lots of storage for food, so you shop for only what you need and not much more. In mid-population areas (Chiba is a good example), some areas are much more car dependant and homes are mostly in suburbs like in North America so Costco makes a lot of sense out there.

I wish there were copies of Black Thunder in the states so we don't have to suffer with the usual American snacks that aren't too great even with the amount of sugar they put in each bite.

Dude. Bulgogi bake looks dope. I love bulgogi. I was just thinking the other day, sitting at costco for the monthly grocery run and having my chicken bake for lunch, that they could make bank with some kind of other bake.

Update, I mentioned the existence of the bulgogi bake to my mother who stared at me and said "How could you do this to me? Now I want a bulgogi bake!"

New Yorker here; clam chowder is not only a Northeast dish, but we got two kinds. "New England" is the white creamy version you had, and the one most associated with the term "clam chowder", eaten more commonly during colder seasons in the whole of the Northeast (though most popular in the 'New England' area), and I love it. "Manhattan" has a red tomato base, is pretty much relegated to NY, and imo not that great. Hope that helps.

My little sister who went to Japan to be a teacher told us there was a costco 45 minutes away from her. They apparently had a $30 sushi set among the products. It’s interesting to see clam chowder on the menu, as well as the chicken bake being filled with korean bbq.

Where I am in the States, our Costcos got rid of the onion machines during the pandemic. I've had to resort to the indignity of bringing my own minced onions

So nobody is going to talk about the bird that was casually walking by in costco while he was eating the hotdog? 🧐

Is the Costco in Tokyo? If not which is the closest to Tokyo? I lived in Tokyo in the 80s and early 90s before there were Costcos. Seeing a Costco in Japan would definitely blow my mind. The other thing I wonder about is with homes and apartments being so much smaller in Japan, where are they storing things from Costco? Are people standing around in your way when trying the free food like they do in the U.S.? Surprised the pizza didn’t have corn on it 😂.

I lived in Korea for a while and that bulgogi wrap is hella good. But damn, Koreans went nuts on the onion machine though, they would have plates full of just minced onion mixed with mustard, ketchup and relish. Idk if they did that in Japan.

You’ve never seen clam chowder in Costco? Our Costco is SnR /landers and I always thought the clam chowder was an American adaptation. Also yes. Onion machine is life. I usually take the machine itself on slow days but I dump out the onions to make sure the other customers don’t go hungry ❤
