I feel pretty much the same way. If you're drinking straight matcha, then go for the most premium matcha powder within your budget as there will be a difference. But, if you're going to be mixing matcha with milks, sweeteners, flavor syrups, herbs/spices, etc., then get something like the big Costco bag. Most people won't notice the subtleties and nuances of quality matcha when it is being drowned out by half a dozen other ingredients.

I love matcha and honestly, I mostly mix it with milk. But I still can’t stand the cheaper or bulk versions. I don’t like adding sweeteners to it either, so I always end up having to add a vanilla extract or something to help the off taste.

One thing to be aware of when buying the big Costco bag is that any given matcha’s quality will start to degrade once a sealed package is opened. 1 month is the ideal time to finish a package, but matcha (and generally any green tea) should definitely be finished within 6 months of opening, or you won’t be getting the nutrients and caffeine that you’re looking for. So the bigger the package, the harder it is to finish the matcha within this time window.
