JASSM vs LRASM is a LOT more than reinforced nose for ship hulls. Lockheed has some very nice videos and info on public domain about the LRASM. The LRASM has semi-autonomous routing and retargeting capabilities, along with a hive-mind function where they can work together to overcome contested environments. Plus they are BLACK unlike the gray JASSMs. They look super cool.

The USN has acquired the Kongsberg NSM (Naval Strike Missile) which is a 5th Gen missile like the LRASM. In fact it's been around a lot longer than the LRASM. It's also being modified as the JSM in order to fit into the weapons bay of the F-35. Both the NSM and the JSM have a smaller warhead than the LRASM. The LRASM is being integrated onto the P-8A Poseidon and I believe that the NSM is being integrated onto the P-8A as well. Since both Norway (Kongsberg is a sovereign Norwegian enity) and Australia are both funding the JSM integration on the F-35 and are now both P-8A users, they may push for the JSM integration onto the P-8A. Australia has the largest P-8A fleet outside of the USN.
@soulsphere9242
Ай бұрын
NSM is strictly surface and land launched at the moment, I doubt it will be integrated onto the P-8A, unless you meant in JSM form? Australia is buying NSM, JSM and LRASM and it is planned that the latter will be used by the P-8A. I can definitely see a market for JSM on the P-8 though. JSM would make a lot of sense Brits for external F-35B carriage and their P-8As.

I know nothing about this, but have a question. Instead of attacking with the "best" missiles, can you instead fire decoys (or hellfires which cost much less). They don't even need to explode, fly low, go fast, be stealthy, or try to avoid. The idea is to fire them closer to home and return quickly. Their purpose is to make the enemy to detect and respond. In the meantime, our planes have returned, refueled, re-armed, and are off again. I doubt there is enough time for that, so possibly use lesser planes (fire them from Cessnas if it would work) on the first waves and have the real attack squads on the ready. You could also just land-based missile decoys. The real attack arrives after all the opposition weapons run out of fuel or are otherwise spent. You could even have 2+ waves of decoys. The more decoys they blow up, the more it costs the bad guys in both $$ and supply, and the less $$ spent buy us. Maybe they get smart and stop responding. That can be a good thing too.

One question, as I'm genuinely interested: With the F-35 NOT rigged for stealth (ie. with external stores and pylons) can they, once the external-carried ordnance is launched, then jettison the pylon assemblies so they then CAN be stealthy? That might be interesting; they can carry a couple of LRASMs on the wing pylons and AMRAAMs etc in the internal bays, fire off the LRASMs, dump the pylons then go full stealth for a MiG hunt?

Hey guys, (I swear, not another French saying French planes are the best) I've got a question : why didn't you fly just near above the level of water, under radar? the Rafale is kinda a F/A 18 at his top/last generation (Superhornet?) The French Air and Space Army/Forcr doesn't have stealth fighter, like the F22 or the F35. So we fly under the level of radar, and it works. S400 isn't a problem if you fly under "I don't know how many" - feet. Also, the stealth bomb you used ad the end might be okay on the F/A 18? So, you fly near Sebastopol, low, until the time when you can all choose a different target, and then you turn back, while the modern stealth missile are going to the ship without being seen or targeted by S400 and the other small AA defense. And I think it might be even better with F35, to firstly destroy Anti Air defense, then the ship.

The fact that all ships are disabled drops the realism a lot, most probably 1 ship out of 4 per block would be on Sentinel Shift with it's close range anti-missile systems live covering the whole harbor up to roughly 3km out. Most approaching LARSMs (or what they are called) being subsonic cruise missiles would be easy targets even if they go up and dive I think.

From what I know usually all the ships are docked and deactivated for maintenance, while smaller ships patrol. There are 6 battalions of S-400 in Crimea and multiple IADs near Sevastopol so it should be well-defended. If the leaked maintenance report from the Moskva is true then we can assume the others may be facing similar issues. The LRASM would easily devour the warships & air defenses with no problem, I don't understand why them being subsonic makes them easy targets?

OK-------. The actual LRASM's are smart and would have been talking to each other with the lead missiles "Identifying" and cataloging all the ships in the fleet including the Subs. Then assigning different Missiles to Each ship while targeting two missiles to ships that needed more than one missile to sink them with each of the two missiles hitting the ship at different locations. While ignoring civilian or low value ships. With the single hit missiles not necessarily hitting the ship in the Center but where it will do the most damage, (a magazine or the Combat Control Center or). Only after all the ships have had the first round of missiles targeted, Additional late arriving missiles will be Retargeted on missed or surviving ships (ignoring Burning, half sunk, dead in the water hulks for still active ships)... With the 1,000lbs Metalic explosive warheads (with their burning metal (no Shrapnel) Blast Waves designed to cut through bulkheads, through many compartments above and below decks along the hull and then through the hull to do the most damage over as much of the ship as possible) able to destroy (completely cutting the small lightly built 30 to 45 foot wide Russian or Chines Cutters and Frigates) in Half with only one missile. All of this and more is why the LRASM's cost so much more than the Harpoon which is stupid and only has a 500lbs High explosive shrapnel Warhead that may leave only a section or compartment or two of a frigate badly damaged and maybe on fire.

lrasms can attack land targets as well and it would only take 1 lrasm to sink any of those ships since russian damage control was proven in the moskva sinking

We need to do some bridge runs… I wonder who actually dropped the two bombs on that bridge. A P8 was used on the pipeline. You can see the release point of the weapon making the plane pop up.

The conventional forces aren’t really prepared for modern warfare as we once thought. The corruption has led to a lack of training.
