Cadson Bury is a hillfort west of the town of Callington. The design and use of local topography denotes a probable build date of between 800 and 500 BC.
The top of the hillfort would have been used to defend the local population from raids, with a ditch 1.3m deep surrounding a perimeter rampart of up to 2m in height.
The steep incline leading up to the fort makes a formidible obstacle for those foolish enough to attack, and was the most likely reason for the site being chosen.
There is a beautiful riverside, woodland walk to be enjoyed on the approach to the Cadson Bury and the site is well worth a visit.
