Larry is big mad we're doing another 9 speed but this could be the ultimate one -- be patient Larry. Drop a what's up Larry in the comments if you read this!!!
Weird thing to note Shimano shows a picture of a cassette without Hyperglide Plus on the page for CS-M5100-11, but I have a 11 speed 11-51T Hyperglide Plus M5100 Cassette, it's 11-13-15-18-21-24-28-33-39-45-51T. But there are two pictures first shows the 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-37-42T which is the one that does not have Hyperglide Plus. Hyperglide Plus plus shifts great under, even manages to shift under stupid heavy load, but not recommended, it definitely shifts smoother than previous gen. Imagine that with 9 speed, that would be sweet.

I want an Ebike dedicated 9 speed. Heck, even a 4-5 speed. 50-30-18-9 would be super sick.

That would be one special cassette! I don't know if anybody even makes custom cassettes, but even if they did you have to do use a Sram XD Hub to get a 9 tooth high gear. Also your derailleur would have to be capable of a 41 tooth spread which is pretty big! This is definitely possible though I don't know who would actually build it for you.

I don't use anything between 24-40 often, a 9 speed would be ideal for me also!

Yeah I think 9-speed is really underutilized today! After I looked at all the numbers if you're climbing and going downhill you don't need all them gears in the middle!

I do find I'm not active enough with my shifting to need a 12 speed. This past weekend the gradients were so steep anyway that you'd be pushing any speed bike so no advantage of 12 speed there.

I think the whole 12 speed thing is mostly the more is better attitude but it's really not needed for most of us!

I guess with the 11 speed drivetrain you need to shift faster. So when you switched to 9 speed you don't have this issue. but not been an issue for me I find 11 speed to be nice. But I use Archer D1X electronic shifting system, so it's quick to shift, only push a button. no crazy long thumb movement like Shimano shifters. But I managed to shift fast with that too, but was not great. Horrible ergonomics, too extreme thumb movement. I had 11 speed XT and XTR shifters before they could shift down 4 gears, but that was super extreme, had to move my hand to shift the 4th, absurd. But even one gear was not pleasant, as my thumbs can misalign during shifts and cause pain, that plus ergonomics means I don't use mechanical shifters anymore. 9 speed is probably a great idea for a city/shopping bike, as you ride short distances, and usually in lowest gear to mid gear. But fast riding where I push hard and then need that between gear cus one heavier gear will be to heavy, then it's nice to have more gears. I've not tried 50T 9 speed yet.

Basically offered the idea as a possible good setup! Iive been riding miine on cliimbs and downhill and honestly it works really well! Certaiinly not for everyone, but ive been likiing it!

Another plus of the 9 speed is a thicker chain so hopefully won't snap on you

That is true! As you probably know, many single speed guys run 9 speed chains for that reason

That cassette won't shift as nicely as Shimano will. But they don't offer a 9 speed 11-50T.

Typically, what size chain ring are you using for with your 11-50T cassette?

My Lotus has a 27.5 rear wheel and i run a 34t oval. I think if i had a 26" rear wheel i would run a 36t and if i had a29" rear wheel i would run a32t

Can you summarize what components you used? Shimano deore derailleur and shifter, ZTTO cassette, chain?

I'm glad you asked because I was getting ready to do another little video because I said the wrong pull ratio in that video! It's not a Shimano shifter Shimano shifter has a 2-1 ratio but the shifter you need is a one-to-one pull ratio like a Sram. The derailleur s a RD5100 sgs shimano, the shifter can be a 9 speed LTwoo with 1:1 ratio or a Sram 9 speed shifter. The cassette is a Zitto 11-50 9 speed. I used a KMC chain but anyy 9 speed chain would work

If you buy the ltwoo shifter make sure it's the one that Sram compatible that's listed as one-to-one ratio. Ltwoo sells them both ways
