Pull the saw backwards the first few strokes. It makes a small flat spot for the blade to start working on.

That is one of the funniest things I have ever heard....From what I can tell there is a little bit of hysterises built into this system. In other words there is a lack of precision in this system. You have some of the best one liners. I have to rememebr them. I wouldn't want to get into a fight with the guy who put that keyway in?....and the stick police..I was laughing so hard I could 't breathe. I couldn't imagine working with you at a job site or in a shop....

The hysteresis is so that the handle has a little bit of slack in it, before it takes the tension off the vee belt going to the lathe headstock. That way, brushing against it isn't the end of the world, and you also don't have to worry about pushing it back hard to try and get more traction on the vee belt. As for the one-liners, it's all improv. I'm not good looking, so I have to work on my humour game instead :)

Isn’t it fun to need and acquire all the new tools?

Heating the key causes it to expand which will only make it tighter. Heat the shaft not the key. Focus your flame on the opposite side of the shaft.

I've ordered another pulley with a keyway in it, just in case.

When precision becomes important, you be using layout fluid to scribe parts instead of using a marker?

That implies I'd be willing to let the moths out of the wallet :) I've heard that layout fluid goes... well, not bad, but worse, over time?
