As an American who finds such charm and character in the different architectural styles and structures of the older homes found throughout the UK, I have to say that homes in America are different. The new style of homes that are created and built lately feel so empty and lack a lot of uniqueness because of the monopoly a certain group of builders seem to have hold of, which has been set up that way, and the trend are these 5 or 6 different style that they erect and sell all over the country. The vibe is drab and stale. In fairness, the UK’s new builds are similar and I find unappealing. The US has a good number of beautiful older homes that are absolute treasures and proud that they’re apart of our own history. Absolutely!

I find it hard to accept the "bidding war" described, after an offer was made, offer accepted - this constitutes a contract, in the US. Not so in the UK, apparently. It seems underhanded to agree to a price, then go ahead and accept one from another buyer!

If you love your pets, as most do, keep them locked down in a yard, or in the case of cats, keep them indoors for life! I've had 7 cats over the years from childhood to adult, and only one lived a normal, long life, and he was the one we kept inside. Cats roam the land, and just disappear which happened several times. Another healthy cat showed up dead on the porch all bloated, likely some kind of poison. One of my cats when I was 17 disappeared for 3 months, and one day driving home I see him coming across a field toward our house. He was all beat up living the wild life of a cat, but he healed up just fine, and then walked off never to be seen again . Our last cat we found abandoned at a day old with his umbilical cord still attached. We waited around for several hours at this airport cafe, but the mom was not to be found. We took him home, nursed him to health, and kept him inside due to my previous experiences with cats. My friend had two 17 year old cats both indoors for life, and they do just fine. If you really care for your cats, keep them indoors as left outside, and free to explore is not a safe option! The old saying is all too true, curiosity killed the cat. 😎👍✌
@bjbrown

I have adopted five cats. All are spayed or neutered. Two are permanently inside but the others having grown up wild will only come inside for minutes and then must go outside. I have tried feeding only inside but when they don't want to come inside they roam more looking for food. It's not a perfect world but at least having them fixed and feeding them is my best. I live in a quiet neighborhood so they have done okay for the last six years. Yes, best to stay inside, but I would also have ongoing conflicts and that would be a problem.

Our cat is a sweetheart, so calm and loving. He sleeps all day in an unused room he chose for himself, on the bed or on a chair; I think he likes it because it's cool, as it's unheated. I visit him a couiple times a day to say hello and give him a stroke. In the evening he has a meal and then he wants to go out. I let him out and off he goes. We live in a semi-rural area. I have no idea where he goes off to, but he's always back in the morning. He obviously loves his roaming life. Once we left him with my daughter who lives in a really rural area. He took one look at her dog and raced off into the wild. he had never been there before and didn't know the area, so we worried. Then after a day, he was back. If I ever move house I will always choose a place with him in mind, ie, a rural house where he can roam at night. It's clearly what he loves and needs.

I put up a cat fence around the entire back yard. My cats can safely do cat things outdoors. They have a pet door when they want to come inside. All bird baths and feeders are in my front yard to keep them safe as well. It has worked out nicely for ten years. Was it expensive? Not as expensive as the trip to the emergency vet and the needed surgery, that prompted it.
@TOM-C.

@@M.Campbell Too funny, I always dreamed of making the yard cat proof but didn't have the money to do so. People need to remember that owning a pet doesn't just involve feeding, and maintenance, it also involves being able to care for the animal in an emergency which means a bankroll of at least $1000 on hand at any given time. You'd be really unhappy if your animal dies because you couldn't afford emergency care. Our cat was costing us $150 a month for his last few years due to diabetes. Cheers for caring for your cats!👍😎✌🗽

I think once it goes to sealed bid and the highest bidder is notified, you should get a 2nd chance to out bid them. You had your chance to offer your "best and final". I would have let the other buyer have it for their original lower bid and the seller can suck it.
