This is so sad and frustrating to see! I grew up with the 1970s/80s version of this mall - open area with white lattice and green ivy decor, Weinstocks and JCP anchors, Woolworths in the middle. (Anyone remember the Labor Day telethon?) It was nice and open and airy with nice clothing stores. My first job was at that Orange Julius, then JK Gill Stationers. I thought it was a much nicer mall than CC Center, where half of that mall was dead space. The redesign made it claustrophobic and dated-looking... terrible redesign!

Saw Santa Claus in the parade outside, and then had pictures taken with him inside the mall, during the 1960s.

In 1970 I worked at Weinstock's selling bell bottoms and other men's clothing. Back then, a pair of Levi 501s sold for $4.98. We had a record player cranking out the "Woodstock" album on repeat. I was tasked with turning it down before it got to the part where Country Joe and the Fish started loudly spelling out rude words. Fun times...

There is another mall across the street. Country Club Center , Walmart use to be a Montgomery Wards and at the end it was a Liberty House. The mall is still there, but it is closed. I don't know how to access it.

Country Club Center was the first shopping mall my family used and I have many fond memories of going there. W T Grants was a wonderful place to shop & a smaller Woolworths had a great lunch counter. A full course turkey dinner was .79 cents or less & I still remember Flo, the kind, cheerful waitress that worked there. I was born in 1952.

@jeannejett2299 wool worth had great pop corn. I remember the Montgomery Wards and JC Penny. Lyons restaurant. Wards had a great place for lunch. I worked at MR. Big & Tall. The entire place has changed. Wienstocks turned into Macy. Arden Mall was an outside Mall. It wasn't a 2 story.

Before the remodel, the mall was in a straight line instead of that curved setup, with a lot of green and a gazebo motif. They even had a gazebo on the sign outside. I never saw the place completely full after that remodel. Will have to check out the theater there eventually, but will have to be prepared for disappointment as every new theater that's opened around here has royally sucked. (Wish they could bring back the Capitol with its two 70mm auditoriums!)

Hayden Timmons Yes, still don't know what they're going to do with that. Some say the building is historical and shouldn't be changed but we'll have to see what happens. The Walmart across the street which used to be Montgomery Ward is empty now also.

Hayden Timmons It was torn down over 10 years ago. A Walmart and open air shops were built in its place. The Sears stayed but that recently closed.

The mall is doing a lot better as of now they put a huge trampoline park in where sports chalet used to be, and there’s also a movie theater now where the off broadway shoes was. It gets a ton more traffic then it did.

I've lived in the neighborhood my whole life (33 years) and Country Club Plaza has always struggled. If not for Winco the place would probably be completely dead.

Sunrise Shopping Mall down on sunrise Ave is doing pretty well. They survived the Great Recession. Wonder why Countey Club failed so badly besides being small.
@armadilllo

Sunrise was built and Arden Fair was remodeled so everyone went to the modern places so now sunrise and Arden fair struggle while Roseville and Rocklin are booming. Country Club is sort of coming back but the neighborhood is old but making a comeback with younger people moving in but the low income apartments going up everywhere are running it down. Online shopping isn't helping anything either. People like new modern places.
