I had this playing softly in the background while I was giving my senior year English class book report on Steinbeck's "The Grapes Of Wrath". I not only aced the book report, I got an A for the semester. That was back in 1972. My teacher liked it so much that she wrote me such a glowing recommendation that I got accepted to Purdue University on my first try. Thank you Country Joe!!

One of those wonderful Nashville guitars on this wonderful Guthrie tribute was played by Grady Martin. Country Joe, Joan Baez, Buffy Sainte-Marie, David Buskin and many others came to Nashville in the early seventies. Then came the Outlaws. Now we have 'The Hats' and Taylor Swift. And Willie's getting old. God help us.

This is one, long song ever sung on this album. This is one of my favorites.

I love Woody, but my opinion is this is the best version of "The Ballad of Tom Joad" that I've heard! I have the LP also.
