Susaye Greene's vocals are unbelievably stunning and the best part of her performance is watching her feel those notes and hit them floorless. Her octaves are off the chart . Can't help feeling she mixes Jazz Opra soul funk blues all rapped up in a bow of pure class . This is my favourite version of this song . Courtney's name became huge after this classical cover . Stunning version !👌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I had to get this on vinyl. Might never hear it again if I didn't. No internet back then. What a voice. Of course nowadays I can find out everything about everything on the internet but I'm so glad I have my record from a bygone era. Thank you.

A 70s. British soul funk band 'Real Thing' did this first, then I heard Philip Bailey's version. And then Courtney Pines. All Bad(as in Real Good!)

Susaye Greene's Incredible vocals! Listen to all the versions of this song that you find here on KZitem. It's been sung by some of the world's finest vocalists in the genre. The Philip Bailey version is perhaps the most well known. Then go back and listen to this version. Susaye Greene herself of course being one of the above mentioned "world's finest vocalists in the genre". But what she does here is special. It has that unforgettable quality. The singing that flows out of her soul in this song. ..is on a different level all together.

You do know this was written by 4 black guys from Liverpool: ‘The real thing’ who wrote it about their experience of living in the rough part of Liverpool? The original vocalist Ray, spent time in a children’s home there. When people hear ‘ghetto’ People assume it’s about America!

Saw Courtney Pine support BB King at the Octogan centre, Sheffield - can't remember the year, think it was late 80's or something but just remember this song - had to try the vinyl afterwards - incredible talent.

That's not just Soprano vocalization; it's Sopranino - rather, two octaves above that; maybe "sopraninissimo". For sure, it supercedes those of Whitney's, Mariah's and yes, even Mimi Ripperton's - in altissimo overtone high- note vocalization. They are delivered in melodic context - so clearly, so smoothly, and effortlessly without wavering. The chanteuse is "mauvaise", the French will say. And her name is....fill in the blanks; will you not? Look it's there. I adore and admire THIS Courtney Pine, his saxophonic excellence.
