It's ostensibly from his humanitarian deployment to Haiti, in which he was reportedly involving in handling the remains of earthquake victims Whether or not that's true, it's all but certain he had severe mental health issues: - He was in and out of psychiatric hospitals for two years prior to the murder. I work in one; it takes a lot to get admitted as an inpatient, let alone over that sort of period - He was most definitely suffering from pretty intense paranoid schizophrenia and ongoing delusions that had manifested - PTSD does not necessitate being involved in combat; the medical consensus demonstrates that it is just as likely to be triggered by different types of trauma (i.e., abuse, natural disasters, rape, traffic accidents) - The issue isn't his alleged PTSD, but rather that the PTSD contributed to his psychosis. Yes, it's likely he was a pretty decent guy until his issues started Rather, the key problem in this tragic affair isn't that Eddie Ray Routh was a psychopath or whatever, but that Americans have severe deficiencies in their mental health systems. Someone like him should have been admitted sooner, given better and lengthier treatment (his three week stay in the VA psych ward where he received his diagnosis is nowhere near long enough to treat schizophrenia), and put under a mandatory treatment order

@@rethguals What needs to change is the actual institutes that treat mental health. They're absolute dog shit and their employee's just the same. Ex addict here, got clean off heroin by myself, no help from inpatient treatment programs. But If I had to pick between going back to drugs or going to an inpatient program again I'd rather slam as much heroin as possible. The People who go into mental health as a profession are seriously shitty human beings, who only give a fuck about a paycheck and nothing else. I've been to 3 different programs and left all 3 they were that bad. I highly doubt psyche wards are any better, in fact I can just picture that jaded POS employee's at those places treating every patient as if they're 7 years old.

@@shizmanbeat I work in a psych ward - I don't doubt your story, there's unfortunately a lot of very poorly run ones and a lot of psych nurses that just don't give a shit or are too set in their ways to actually follow evidence-based practice. When it comes to addiction and eating disorder units in particular, I feel the problem is that staff rely on authoritarian interventions (i.e., simply telling them their behaviour is bad, separating them from negative coping strategies without replacing them, or otherwise just treating them like they don't want to help themselves), rather than actually seeking their perspectives and motivating them to change. Personally, I bend backwards for my patients and would really do the best I can for someone like Eddie (especially as I come from a veteran background too). Prison is absolutely the worst place for him, and as dysfunctional as America's psychiatric systems are (they're literally the worst in the developed world - nothing like this would happen in Canada, the UK, or Australia), they'd be a more sensible place for him

@@bobhall6404 Chris Kyle has been exposed for lying about fairly serious claims, like his 'knockout' of Jesse Ventura.
