WOW! Think you found the best way to build a geo-dome! I've been learning how to do this, and until now, all I've seen is assembling the cut 2x4's on site, then placing the covering once built. This looks so much better to assemble (as shown in your time-lapse video). Will have to check out the geo-dome website. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

Your website shows I believe it's called an H Channel to receive two panels Did you still do the tape and the silicone as in your video as well as the channel or is it one or the other just not exactly sure by the way these are fantastic videos I love your engineering, being an architect and focused on details this is absolutely amazing

Hi Paul, thanks for making these informative videos. I was wondering if you could suggest where to get polycarbonate sheets for domes in the UK? Thanks so much.

Paul, there's a really interesting alternative to poly-carbonate that I came across recently. It is called Solawrap. It looks like very heavy duty triple layer bubble wrap. It is polyethylene, has a lifetime of more than 25 years, and an R-value of 1.7. It is incredibly strong and resists hail. At the time of this post, it is priced at just over one U.S. dollar per square foot.

Robert Clark How does Solawarp do against the weight of snow?

In Europe they give 5 years UV stability warrant. Price around 8€ per square meter. The problem is how to cover a dome with it?!

I would use double-sided vhb tape to adhere it to the wood frame. Then I would use greenhouse SIGA tape to seal the seams on the outside.

Robert Clark I don't think it'll stay in place only with tapes. Wooden or metal ledges must be used also to give it some tension. But then we have to pop some of the bubbles.

does the distortion happen with the multi-wall polycarbonate over 1 meter?

One day I found a video by some guy building shapes for building domes. I searched all over and never found that video again. Out of nowhere I found this one. It's THAT guy! What's he saying? No idea but I know exactly what he's talking about.

Jesus.. you used the whole silicone tube in that triangle

One tube will do about 4 full size frames 1m each side of a triangle, a 4.8m 3v dome needs about 25 tubes.

NICE BUT EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE!

The covering method isn't that expensive, it's the polycarbonate that really adds to the cost. For cost conscious builders I would recommend using horticultural polythene, it's about ten times cheaper.
