This song stirs up so many memories. My late dad had an old cassette of the Kiowa songs. Our long trips to Oklahoma from Mescalero to dance and enjoy these songs. ❤❤

Why do Native Americans have flag songs? Do they not remember how the US Govt subdue them? Do they not remember the arrival of the US flag and the killing of Red Indians?

I’m Navajo, Kiowa, and Southern Ute. Where I grew up and on the other reservations that I’m descended from, we know our origin stories and songs and the specific landmarks that are significant to our tribal origins. We are tied to this land by these oral histories and songs. When our native peoples serve in the military, it is from a place much deeper than what is described as “patriotism”. We are bound to this land by these oral histories and songs, as well by our blood.
