Autumn has come and everything is starting to feel cozy. I love the fall season and the welcome chill it brings to the air. At the moment where I live the fig trees are heavy with ripe fruit and they waft their earthy sweetness from gardens and farms onto the roads. I decided to make some fig candles so I could bring one of my favourite autumn scents into my home. I went to an apothecary in a nearby town to see if they had a fig candle fragrance. This is one of my favourite shops. It is full of spooky antiques, candles and apothecary jars. I love it, especially for the autumn season. Before making my way home I did some sketching in Orihuela historic centre. Making candles is one of my favourite crafts when I’m in the mood for some soft creativity. Relaxing, not challenging. I used crackling wood wicks to as a crackling fire vibe to the room. They’re more cozy.I also gathered some of the leaves from the fig tree. I dried them in a low oven to prepare them to be crushed for tea making. The sound of the leaves crushing my hands was so satisfying. I also dried some of the fig fruits to add sweetness to the tea and added some lavender. As the candles were setting I played around painting some colour studies to explore the rich autumn colors.
