If your filter is a micro membrane filter (like a Sawyer but others are similar) and it freezes, it is no longer safe to use it because it isn’t preventing bacteria from passing through. If the temps are going below zero, it’s best to keep your filter inside your coat to keep it from freezing.

Thanks for the heads up! And for anyone else who might have been in the same situation, turns out you can test the integrity of the filter using this method: kzitem.info/news/bejne/loR6mWd_kZiKrXo

That is right. There are water molecules that stay within the fibers that when it freezes it expands break the microfibers. Some people keep them within themselves so that their body warms it up prevents it from freezing

It is snowing on this calm Saturday morning in northern Germany where I live near the Baltic Sea, and it is the perfect setting for watching your winter hike. Loving nature and being outdoors myself, I am so happy to have found your channel a few weeks ago, and I have already enjoyed watching many of your adventures, and I am thrilled that there still are so many more for me to discover, and I hope there will be many new ones for many more years!! Your videos are a unique composition of superb filming, beautiful nature, meaningful narration, excellent editing and amazing self composed music. Your authenticity, camaraderie, respect for nature as well as your reflections on life and your appreciation of the whole experience are so beautiful and make watching your videos so enjoyable. Robby, Andrew, Bryan and Thomas…thank you so much!! Love, Corinna 💚 P.S.: I hope we won’t lose you to the movie industry…great acting guys!! 😃

You guys are a ball of fun. I love watching your adventures. They remind me of my younger days as I hiked various places around the world as a military man and after retirement working in civilian jobs in the Pacific Rim. Another wonderful benefit is education, picking up knowledge from your specific skills and your philosophies on life. Thank you for a great You Tube channel.

I found your videos a few weeks ago, when I was looking for a video of hiking in National Parks. My Granddaughter was hiking/camping at that time in a series of the National Parks. I completely love your videos. Not just watching your hiking adventures, but your respect of Nature, respect of each other, your knowledge of nature/plants/trees/flowers.... Also, the soothing music being played in the background. I have always loved Nature and hiking. Just never have gone on hikes as long as yours! But, I swear, if I weren't almost 72 years old, I would be out there hiking long hikes like you! :) Thank you for letting me live vicariously at this time in my life, which accompany me with my own wonderful Nature memories. ( I still do go on hikes, but again, shorter ones now!) Oh, and I also like your discussions of food you are cooking too !! :) PS. OMG---and that Video where you were doing an enactment of similar things in Star Treck???!!! HAHAHA!! I thought your program was finished for the evening and I was walking around here, when I heard some odd conversation coming from my TV. I THOUGHT the show had segued into a new KZitem show. Nope. It was you guys --and TOTALLY cracked me up!! HAHAHA )

This one really puts things in perspective when it comes to winter blues. I do feel revived whenever I get outside. For the winter, I'll put on the appropriate layers and give myself 20 minutes outdoors. It's also a good reminder that some discomfort keeps us from taking our favorite things for granted.

Beautiful winter & waterfalls.... you guys always look like you enjoy winter camping - more than slogging through rain! Those multiple tracks with the torn up ground may have been from wild hogs. I saw a video of a guy on the AT a couple months ago showing a torn up area of ground and he, being local, said it was hogs. Be safe out there!

Good job managing a tough fire Andrew and guys. I kept thinking to myself that there should be larger wood pieces tucked against the fire to dry out. Then there they were. Shred up some birch bark next time. It's tough to do when wet, like anything else, but it does still burn well for tinder even if it's wet. Birch wood chunks too.

Love watching your crew enjoy your meals! It's definitely always my favorite part of any trip. I make trail congee regularly, but dehydrate my own rice bc Instant Rice has a less starchy grain. For those of us gram weenies, pork floss has high cal/oz with a ton of protein. Another winter favorite is trail hot pot, since freeze dried fish cake, tofu, etc., are really easy to find in asian groceries.
