you can do a cp3 conversion on most cp4 equipped vehicules. touareg included. I'd say either convert or sell it. You're looking at north of 6000$ when that pump fails, because it kills the injector contrary to the cp3 which not only last forever but if they fail they blow externaly, saving injectors

Great video, thank you. People that own an engine with a CP4 are living under the illusion that it is the fuel or a lift pump causing the failure when there is nothing that can be done to prevent a CP4 from destroying the entire fuel system. Ford continues to use a CP4 and they just do not care.

I'd love to have one to teardown but unfortunaly I dont have the means right now to purchase even a used one. KZitem aint paying me enough and the great reset isnt good on us human folks. The hp4 seems quite reliable and been used in tractors and generators for decades prior to entering the pickup market. The good thing about it is the shaft is just like a cp3, so a large flat surface for the pistons to ride on. depends on volume you need. speed wise tge engine idle is at 650 and it can produce 23000psi at idle. in the vehicule it wont exceed 4000 at full engine power and rpm. CP4 is garbage, but supposedly works better in Europe due to fuel lubricates better than ULSD in USA. The cruddy design is Bosch's baby. Does make you wonder why they made it so much worse than cp3, I suppose makes Bosch more money to make cheaper pumps to sell. And of course GM really screwed up every diesel engine they try to make good. NO LIFT PUMP to feed the cp4. Cummins specs the CP3 pump, so all the Ram trucks use them. AND the CP3 can be modified to increase volume, so I think GM ought to go out of business, shoud of let them fail a few years ago. Now GM says will focus only on making electric cars in the future. People your GM diesels have been crapy engines ever since the 1980's and the OLDs 350 diesel. Nothing I have seen has changed my mind.

@@Mikefngarage The 48RE is stronger than that 68rfe. Look at how much bigger the OD clutch is in the 48RE. And then the 68 RFE has an issue with 5th and 6th gear overlap apply times, if built tight, it wears those clutches super fast. Meaning 5th will be applied when 6th is applying. The 68 rfe does have a better gear spread than the 48re. Looks like ZF may be going in the new trucks.
