STORYLINE:
The US administrator in Iraq L.Paul Bremer flew to Hillah on Sunday to visit the resting place of 75 victims of what's known as the Mahaweel massacre which was carried out during Saddam Hussein's rule.
The unknown victims are now buried outside the former Saddam Hussein Mosque, now part of the Hillah University, which also displays an exhibition photos of the grave sites.
The victims were killed during the 1991 Shiite uprising against Saddam in the town of Mahaweel, 100 kms (62 miles) south of Baghdad.
Bremer was shown the grave photos by Sayyed Farqad Al Qizwini, who founded the Democracy Centre in Hillah, which adjoins the university.
The centre is designed to promote democracy through South Central Iraq.
Bremer's visit took place just a few hundred metres from last night's bomb attack and heavy security was in force throughout the visit.
This is expected to be Bremer's last trip outside Baghdad, as he steps down when power is handed back to the Iraqi's at the end of June.
