Hello, I've been intersted in getting the CPA license, and been researching the requirements and bureaucracy of it and... it's so messy. Thank you to you and all who make videos trying to untangle this mess for us to understand. Still tho, I haven't been fully able to figure out how to fullfill all the requirements, I hope I can ask you about it: I am an Argentinan studying, in the second year, of a Bachellor degree (4-year) on Accounting. I have been working as an auditor in PwC for 2 years by now. So, the work expierence is done and dealt with. By the time I graduate I would have 4-years of expierence on PwC here in Argentina, so that should cover it for any state I go for. Now my only issue is the educational requirements: The 4-year bachellor degree will only be worth 120 hours. So I need to get another 30. Originally I was thinking of going for an MBA to do so, but it's yet another 2 years before I can go for the CPA. But the more I research, I start hearing stories, of people who presented stuff like a cuisine course or even a GOLF course for those remaining 30 hours. I asked another youtuber who claims she did this. I have a 3-year degree in cuisine, and even more, a year and a half in a career in graphic design I never finished. Can I combine that with my 4-year bachellor to get 150 credits?. Once again, thanks to people like you for helping us to deal with the messy process of reaching the CPA.

Hi Sebastian, thank you for watching my video and glad to hear that my videos are helping you in your CPA journey. Since you have a 4 year Accounting Degree of 120 credit hours, it is acceptable to take any courses you want to complete the 150 credit hour requirements, such as in your case cuisine. But make sure it is from an accredited university. I also advice you to review your state board requirements for CPA exam and licensing too because some states require certain number of accounting and business courses, so make sure these are included in your 120 credit hours or otherwise you will have to take additional accounting/business courses to fulfill your state requirements.

@@cpaexcellence Ohh, so what this means is that, for instance, when the state of Georgia's requirements are: Bachelor’s degree or higher Total of 150 semester hours of education Thirty (30) semester hours in Accounting above the introductory level Twenty-four (24) semester hours in business related subjects it means I need 150 hours in educations of ANY FORM AND FASHION. A cuisine course works. An acting course. chimestry, so on and on. It demands a bachellor degree, sure, no problem, I am gonna get that. And it demands 30 hours in accounting and 24 in bussines which... I mean, I am getting a 4-year degree in accounting, the subjects in my career already cover this in enough depth, so that's covered. Thanks for your video on CPA exam & requirements. I have a few queries and it would be great if you could answer those. I am an international graduate student from Virginia. I am doing my Masters in Strategic Communication. But I graduated in Accounting & Finance from the United Kingdom. After graduation, I have completed most of the ACCA modules but couldn't complete it due to some personal reasons. After watching your videos on KZitem I am a bit interested again in AICPA. I have checked with Virginia Board of Accountancy where I found the require 120 hours from previous education which I think already got from my previous BA degree. So my queries to you are as follows: 1. VBOA requires either SSN or VA Driving License. I have VA Driving License. Is it okay to be eligible for the exam? 2. As an international student, will VBOA allow me to sit for the exam? 3. Study materials are way expensive. Which study materials you recommend to use for an international student? 4. If I sit and pass CPA exam under VBOA, but according to your site I won't be able to get CPA License from VBOA because they require 150 hrs education for the license. In this case, what would be my future step because without licensing, I won't be able to practice anywhere as CPA? Thanks in advance.

In general, you must have at least 24 credit hours in accounting courses and 24 credit hours in Business/economic/finance. Since you do not have a Bachelor degree in accounting , you will have to take these courses online. Make sure to take them from an accredited educational institution. And review your state board requirements to know the exact number of courses they require and what specific courses they want from you to be eligible for the CPA Exam.

If you only have a BCOM and CA, it is getting a lot tougher to get qualified since 2012, as most state boards changed their interpretation of the CA qualification. In the past, some of them considered CA to be equivalent to a 4-year bachelor degree. This is no longer the case. Note: Alaska, Guam, Colorado, Maine and Ohio may still accept partial or full Indian CA credits. I recommend you double check with the state board you want to apply to before applying.

For sitting for the exam purposes, you don't need to have a Masters Degree (150 credit hours), all you need is a minimum of a Bachelor Degree (120 credit hours') including 27 hours of accounting courses (must have an audit course in accordance with GAAS) and 21 hours in business courses. After you pass, for licensing purposes, you must fulfill the 150 hours requirement (Masters). Learn more here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2KxtmGFramiGfoI

Hello, to meet the 150 credit hours, you can take online courses from accredited educational institutions. If you already took the required number of accounting and business credit hours required by your state board of accountancy, then you can take any courses you want to complete the 150 credit hour requirements, otherwise, you will have to take the courses required by your state board if they are not included in your 129 credit hours.
@icecold1805
5 жыл бұрын
An importan clarification. First, it's essential that you decide which state are you gonna go for the CPA, and analize which requirements you still ain't meeting. Let's take an example: Georgia's educational requirements are as follows: Total of 150 semester hours of education Thirty (30) semester hours in Accounting above the introductory level Twenty-four (24) semester hours in business related subjects So, first things first: 150 educational hours. You have 120 (I presume from that number that you have a 4-year bachellor degree in accounting), which means you still need 30 general education hours. But, it doesn't end there. You also need 30 hours in accounting, and 24 in bussiness. Now, here is the catch: if you did indeed get a 4-year bachellor degree in accounting, I bet you already got more than enough classes in this topics to cover that 30 and 24 hours required. So, not only do you already have 120 of the required 150, but already dealt with the demanded accounting and business hours. What does this mean? it means that the remaining 30 hours can be obtained in ANY form of education. And I mean anything. As long as that education comes from "an accredited educational institution", you can do a cuisine curse, cinema, arts, engineering, whatever. If you want it to be about accounting, sure, but if you are just trying to get those remaining 30 hours as cheaply and easily as possible, just find a topic you find somewhat intersting and get into courses about that. No need to go for the MBA. On a side note: you mention work. Ok, work is a different requirement you also need to cover. We've got to issues there: one, three months is a short expierence, so it's gonna be a lil bit hard to choose an state. But also, do you work on a big firm that has CPAs working with you? cause that's another issue. The work Expierence requirements on all states have two key parts: one, how much time they ask of expierence, and also how they expect you to prove your expierence, let me show you: Georgia working requirements: Experience must be at least one year in duration and completed not more than one (1) year immediately preceding the date of application. Experience must include a minimum of 2,000 hours. Experience must be supervised by an individual who holds a license as a CPA during the period of employment being attested to. So, two things: one, Georgia demands a full year of expierence. But also, Georgia demands that your expierence must be supervised by a CPA. If you work on an office where no one is a CPA, this is a problem. You will need to find States that accept you to present your work expierence being supervised by any sort of graduated accountant from your country.

Bear in mind it varies greatly between states. And sadly, there is no really really easy way to find the requirements of each state. Hi Navneet, since you have a Bachelor in Accounting, you should be eligible to sit for the exam (I assume you have 24 semester hours of advanced accounting courses). You must determine the state you want to apply to, the most suitable for international students are few such as Alaska or Montana, then you must send your transcripts for a foreign credential evaluator to evaluate them, such as NASBA, nasba.org/products/nasbainternationalevaluationservices/requirements/ After receiving the evaluation, get your CPA application form from your state board website, fill it and submit it. Visit NASBA.org to get more details.

Hey, one of the requirements for CPA is 4 yrs education. While our bachelors degree is only of 3 yrs. So you'll need one more yr. You'll also require more credits for it. B.com gives you only 90 credit hours, so its not enough. After you complete the Post diploma, I think it will give you an additional 30 hours which will make you meet the 120 hour requirement. Guam will me suitable for you

If you have at least 120 credit hours with an accounting major then you are eligible to sit for the CPA exam. After you pass the exams, you will need 150 credit hours to be licensed, so you may take additional courses or a masters degree

Technically 65 credit hours on bachelor level and around 66 credit hours on Master, I am curious to know about education criteria, could you plz advise that which state could be suitable or if I am not eligible. Thanks AH

Hi Haider, I recommend Alaska for you as its one of the lowest requirements state and the most suitable for international students. What I understand is that you have a minimum of 120 credit when we add your bachelor and Master hours which is great. Make sure that these hours include 24 semester hrs. or equivalent quarter hours in accounting (intermediate accounting can be included) and 3 hours each of business law, economics and college math/computer science as required by Alaska. If you took these courses, then you are eligible to sit for the exam. In general, all states require having 24 hours in accounting courses. For the CPA license purposes, you will have to take additional courses to fulfill the 150 credit hour requirements. You can take them after you pass the CPA exam. Good luck!

5 жыл бұрын
A "CREDIT HOUR” is the unit of measuring educational CREDIT, usually based on the number of classroom hours per week throughout a term. General rule: Every year of university education is equivalent to 30 semester credits of US education. In India, the 3-year B.Com would be treated as 4 years of US education, i.e., 120 credits for B.Com alone. You must send your transcripts for a foreign credential evaluator to evaluate them, such as NASBA, nasba.org/products/nasbainternationalevaluationservices/requirements/

Make sure that the spelling of your name and last name matches your passport name spelling. Once you submit your application, please allow 4-6 weeks for your state board of accountancy to process your application. Then you will receive your NTS to schedule your exams through prometric. @cpaexcellence
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sapna and thanks for watching my videos. Actually, there are different interesting ways to study for the CPA exam parts including FAR, this includes using mnemonics which makes it easy and enjoyable, for example, we use IDEA as a mnemonic for the income statement sections (income from continuing operations, discontinued operations, extraordinary and accounting principle changes) and PUFER mnemonic for other comprehensive income sources. Another way is creating flash cards of your own, this way takes sometime but alot of people enjoy it, you can write the important notes for each chapter using different colors so you can easily remember the information. Another way is studying out loud and recording your voice in audio while studying and listening to it when you have time. Practicing multiple choice and simulation questions and quizzes is also an important thing, try giving yourself specific number of questions to answer and learn why your answers are correct or incorrect by reading the explanation for each answer. Remember, reward yourself after finishing specific tasks, eat healthy, sleep well and believe in yourself.

@@hemonkywydd Hi, thanks for watching my video. In order to be eligible to apply in Colorado, you must have a minimum of 120 credit hours from the University and a Bachelor Degree. These hours must include 27 hours in accounting courses (which include 21 hours above introductory courses) that must include a 3 hour auditing course in accordance with GAAS. Also, the 120 hours should include 21 hours in Business/finance/economics. Colorado does not have any citizenship or residency requirements so it works for international students. I will make a video about Colorado requirements soon, so make sure to watch it.

I just applied last week and the Illinois board of examiners received all my college transcripts. I first went to a junior college at Delta College and got my associate's in Business administration. Took accounting 1 and 2. Struggled with accounting 2, believe I had a c plus and was upset (long story) I changed my major (bad idea) so I transferred my credits to Michigan State University (talk about an average student) I got accepted to the Eli Broad College of business with a focus in Human Resource Management and since I didnt take any accounting classes there I later went for my Masters and took accounting courses at University of Phoenix online (full time employee). In undergrad I did take Business Law, Finance and economics. My masters program, I took Taxation, forensic, research to name a few. I think I'm eligible but you always wonder am I forgetting something. Also does CPA license transfer from state to state or do you have to take it all again if we decide to move...thanks and great video.

@@alanhumphrey6613 You have a long study journey, but that is good also. You should be eligible to sit for the CPA Exam as you have a Masters degree (a minimum of 150 credit hours) and you took a number of accounting and business courses including the courses you mentioned. The CPA license is transferable to any state you want without the need to take the exam again, so do not worry about this issue.
