Hi, Gary. Nice video. But S&P is vy slow. 3 times lsn before calling. And onemore note-big delay after the call. Its good for daily work but cover answering station during big contests like your favorite cqww ssb. Your voice is vy audible- fantastic in the contest. If you have- you may use W4EEY knob of transceiver recorder or PC software. Best wishes to you-)) GL, Victor R1DX from St.Petersburg, Russia

First of all, I love your station set up! My gosh that would be a dream for me! This may seem like a dumb question, but, I am new to ham radio. Why do you give “5” as the number every time? I’m new to ham radio and I thought you were supposed to give your contact number in the contest after the reception report. I’m a little confused here… Can you help me?

Hi NARG! It is a good question. The short answer is that every Contest can be different. What we are discussing is known as the "Contest Exchange". What information do the stations need to share in order to have a valid contact. You are correct that in many contests the exchange is a Signal report (always 59 in a contest) and a Serial contact number. In the CQ Worldwide DX Contest the exchange is a Signal report (59) plus your CQ Zone Number. For me in South Carolina my CQ Zone is 05. A map of CQ Zones can be found here: www.mapability.com/ei8ic/maps/cqzone.php Every contest has official rules that you can find online. For the CQ WW DX Contest they are here: www.cqww.com/rules.htm The rules will tell you what info needs to be exchanged for a valid contact. Thanks for asking! 73 de W4EEY

Thank you so much for your reply! I take my test this Saturday and I’ve been working so hard. I mean like 5 4-5 1/2 hours every day for the last 15 days. My goal is to pass all three exams the same day. I’ve really thrown myself into this after wanting to be a ham operator now for over 40 years. I just have always had something in life get in the way. Finally, a wife that is very compassionate towards my bucket list dream and the time to do it. Thanks for response, i’m learning, and things like this really help. Blessings and 73! Larry Calls coming 😊
