A couple of years ago my son and I repaired some cracks in the front crossmember. I was thinking about replacing the crossmember but never came across another one that I could use. Now that the engine is out, I thought that this would be a good time to take care of the problem once and for all. I'm not much of a welder and so I just included pictures of the progress. The round hole for the spring center bolt is okay because the new spring does not use a square headed bolt. I used a 3/16" piece of steel for the patch. it is about 1/32" thicker than the frame. I made the top flush and the spring will ride just fine on the lower side.
