This kind of advice is invaluable on KZitem. Old houses need a different approach, and let’s be honest there aren’t really many of those in America…..

@@LS-td3dz yes.. I prefer a textured surface really.. flat walls are hard to achieve.. and always show generally when touching up..

Good tips about how it moves and to clean off the paint. I am not such a fan of using foam in an old house. I would rather use lime plaster as a filler, eliminates the possibility of damp spots whilst foam would create a barrier. As long as organic materials aren't present mould shouldn't grow (as it needs something to feed on I think) but I think there is more risk of mould if lime isn't used.

I had cracks on the stairs like this. Followed this method from your previous videos at the start of the pandemic. Still not a crack in sight, even with a heavy footed teenager. Thanks your all your tips and tricks, they've been a massive help!

What tradesperson would I get to fix this issue? A painter and decorator or someone else? Our staircase has really big cracks and I need it sorting before the hall stairs and landing gets decorated. Thank you.
