Depends what you want to do with the bike.. my yz is setup for bush/single trail. A flywheel weight definitely allows you to lug the bike at low revs without stalling, even with taller than stock gearing. Also moving the clutch perch as far away as possible from the grip helps alot! A pipe/silencer combined with a head to suit the purpose of the bike is also a massive improvement along with jetting/clip position. My yz can do everything a new fancy euro enduro bike can do, the only downside is no electric start
@craigdavies8099
2 жыл бұрын
Did you see the Panthera Motorsports box at the end? Electric start is available, it's pricey, it's fiddly to set up, it's heavy and finding a good spot for a battery is tricky but electric start is awesome!!! I have one on my CR500 trail riding bike.
@nathanjv28

@@craigdavies8099 I just watched the end part, I remember reading a little while ago that an electric start kit would be available for the yz. Curious to see what's involved to do the conversion, a good location for a battery is the airbox, I had a DeWalt lithium battery under my seat at one stage for my lighting kit that just rested against the airfilter
@craigdavies8099
2 жыл бұрын
@@nathanjv28 My kit didn't come with wiring, switch or a relay. Can't remember if it came with a rec/reg. The smallest lithium battery from Anti gravity is perfect for airbox install, I made a little Titanium box for the battery. It reduces the air flow a bit. Some shims might be required to get it aligned properly, that was the hardest part... I would be happy to do the install for you.

I know it’s something unusual but at the end of the build would you be able to break down the cost of the build along side the cost of the average used KTM and a brand new KTM, more often then not these builds aren’t actually worth the money but who doesn’t love watching somebody build a flash bike with all the parts we wish we could justify buying!

I'm doing this at the moment with an old 2000 YZ125 that two of my sons used to ride. It's already blue, so I figured do it up to look like my Sherco 300 Factory 2T and make the YZ a small bore Enduro bike. Sherco headlight and front fender, 18" rear wheel, new sticker kit and wear and tear items replaced. Should be mint 👌

I love my YZ250X. In this order. Apex head. Heavy fly wheel. Maybe the X CDI. 18" rear wheel. Some people remove the spacer on the power valve governor. Suspension for sure. Skid plate. Rad guards. Maybe a 270mm front rotor. Gearing if needed for your terrain. And tires. The keihin carb is pretty good actually, once jetted correctly, as long as you don't see too much elevation change.

I set up an 06 yz250 for trails/scramble racing, it worked great. The suspension is better than any stock ktm. I added a 11oz flywheel weight, wr450 shock(off the old steel framed one), bigger gas tank, stunt clutch lever(easiest pulling set up going), hand guards, rad guards and skid plate. I ran the stock pipe and gearing on purpose, it worked good locally, any lower and I lacked top speed plus first was low enough for me.

I’d probably suggest the steel clutch basket over the flywheel weight. It’s much heavier so it will help with vibration as well as basically make your bike impossible to stall. Maybe depending on how aggressive your planning on enduro riding I’d suggest an 18 inch rear wheel
