I can't thank the both of you enough for this information. I've encountered several new Christians since 2020 and one of the first questions they always ask me is, "What translation do you suggest or recommend?" My answer is almost always something along the lines of, "Yes." or "The one you have now." Then, after we chuckle for a moment, I tell them candidly that while I've "read them all" and choose different ones for different applications (say, study vs. daily reading) that the NLT seems to serve newer believers best out of the gate when it comes to simply diving in and reading with understanding. (And, yes, I know some will disagree and that's fine! The Holy Spirit absolutely will illuminate Scripture to those with genuine desire to devour it. But, does a new believer even know to ask or believe that before they've even read it to be so? The NLT is just where I, personally, have come down on the subject when considering what "most" new Christians I encounter seem to struggle with. Someone with a higher education/reading level may get a different answer. But, the NLT has simply become my "safe" choice to new Christians.) I try to keep a few "cheap" (faux leather type) NLT Bibles around "just in case" one needs to be gifted. So now, armed with the info y'all provided here, I can start making sure the ones I purchase are of better text block quality should I need to rebind for a special gift (until more premium NLT options become available off-the-shelf). LOOOOONG comment. But, just really excited to share that the video helped a lot. LOL

These videos have been very helpful as someone who is in the process of ordering their first rebind, so many options for text blocks but I feel like I can make the right choice now.

An additional question worth posing is, "Which leathers are overhyped and don't measure up to their reputations?" (I'd put Kangaroo at the top of that list...way harder to work than the results it gives would justify.)

My to rebinds that I had done both in giant print are both cowhide. As far as the paper goes for someone like myself who needs giant or super giant print paper is a huge issue. Opacity is almost more important than the size of the font and when it comes to giant print and super giant print tax blocks, and I understand why this is you generally don't get very good paper. I have been blessed with both of the revines that I have done or should I say had done and I'm super super happy. I would almost like to send you one of mine and have you take a look at it

Very much needful video, Tim.. that last sentence is true.. "Every bible lover should have atleast one custom bible made" .. because GOD'S greatest gift to the mankind is HIS WORD and we, who are spending hundreds of dollars for a phone, every 2 or 3 years should have atleast one custom rebind of our favourite bible in a very high standard, where we can cherish it for our life time.. i think, any one, who can afford a 200 dollar phone for every 2 years, can afford a 200 or 300 dollar bible for his entire lifetime.. Thanks Tim, GOD bless you..

The CSB single column wide margin budget version is a great candidate for a rebind. The paper is the same as the premium but has a woeful synthetic cover.

So he said get a sewn binding is a )Smyth-sewn, paste-down binding) count as that or do I have to get the 200$ (Smyth-sewn, edge-lined binding)

Paste down is the liner. It can still be seen with a paste down liner.

Y'all were talkin' over this Texas boy's head. I ain't no rebinder. Shoot! I ain't never even had me no kolige edumacashun. 😕🤔🤠 Kidding...sorta. It might help some of us if you gave us a glossary of rebinding terms if you're going to deep dive into the subject by interviewing a pro. Specialized terms (e.g., textblock) and/or definitions (e.g., "memory", "overcast" stitching) left me trying to figure out in context what those terms could mean.

Memory is the leather’s ability to be trained. I’ve done two videos called Bible Terms where I cover this stuff.

I got some Badalassi Carlo waxy and the smell is bothering me. I'm thinking of trying double shot next if it doesn't have a strong smell. ??

Really? Do strong leather smells bother you? Some of the double shot has a strong leather smell too. Especially the lighter colors.

Any chemical scents cause airway irritation and coughing attacks. I have dark brown Horween Chromexcel and Dublin leather here. Horween doesn't bother me. And this other nice sienna color cowhide that I bought years ago doesn't smell. I bought olive Badalassi Carlo waxy and rebound one bible with it. I can't stand being around it. I was hoping to find some green and blue leather that doesn't have an odor that bothers my airways.

@Creationhorse That’s odd. All Badalassi is veg tanned. No chemicals are used. Horween is a Chromeexcel and uses a chemical.
