I have the brother to this router, and it is non-digital, and I find it works just fine mounted in a table. You need to remove the rod springs, just like any other plunge router to be used with a table, as they can make it rack where the lift screw is not centered, but further than that, it works perfect. I also have the pro series wit the red top, with all three bases, D-handle included, and it works just as well, fixed, plunge, or D-handle, with table, or by hand. A very good router.

My router turns on after flipping the switch, but does not spin the bit/collet assembly. Instead, after a few seconds the screen gives a red light instead of the blue. I took some of the wires out and put them back in to try to reset it; still no luck. I did not disconnect the screen as it looks like it is soldered on. Any help?

I thought I would add that the power switch is the only thing I would change about the design, as it needs to be moved around and over the right grip, and I wouldn't recommend the digital for a table, as you would have to pull it out each time to set the speed, or maybe put a mirror under it. These have no vibration to them, and are well built. I think they are being made by the same company making some of the Bosch ones. These seem more powerful than rated, and have a good slow-start to them.

I can't answer about this specifically, but some sparking is usually normal. This one was made by Chervon, but I'm not sure you can source replacement brushes now. If the brushes were misshapen before you filed them, it's possible they're worn and need to be replaced. It's really hard to say sight-unseen. I parted with this review sample a few years ago, and so I am unable to compare or attempt to replicate what you're seeing.

Hello. How has the router held up over the years? Are you still satisfied? Thanks for the review.

It wasn't long before I donated it. Really, I prefer simpler routers with long-standing reputations and widely available accessories. With routers like this one, if you don't buy everything you need at the time of purchase, at least from those accessories that are even available, there's a good chance you won't be able to find them later on. My personal router is a Bosch-made Craftsman Professional router similar to the 1617, and I love it.

@@ToolGuyd I'm in search of a router now. New to woodworking and want to buy a solid good quality router. Had the chance to purchase a Craftsman professional router model 28084 with a lot of good accessories but waited to long. I'm looking at the Milwaukee 5616-24 2-1/4hp router. Just can't find any accessories for Milwaukee. What's the model number on the router you are suggesting?

I like the Bosch 1617, but Porter Cable 890 series and Dewalt routers are also very popular.

Does seem like a fairly solidly built router. And I saw what appeared to be a spray bottle of Camellia or Jojoba oil in the background...Could there be Lie-Nielsens hiding off-camera somewhere?!?!

Nice router, and I would own one, but I can't get past this one issue. Has anyone had problems getting the base plate screws off ? I purchased and returned 2 of these routers because I could not get the screws off, the 2nd one I took back to Sears and asked them to get the screws off, they were unable, using several on hand tools.
