a point of note to keep in mind, there are two different national pipe threads. NPT and NPS. National Pipe Taper and National Pipe Straight. The NPT fittings you are familiar with, but the NPS fittings are a little bit different. they use the same thread pitches, but while NPT uses the taper and some kind of sealant to do its job, the NPS fittings use a gasket to make their seal. typically a Female NPS fitting will have a mildly oversized flat face to give the gasket its sealing surface. its very possible that the fitting for that pump actually is an NPS but you made it work in any case. can't wait to see Seeker hit the waves.

I have been watching you since day 2 and one thing has remained constant , your attitude . You seem to be the embodiment of that Henry Ford adage ; " Some people think they can , some people think they can't . They are probably both right " . My grandfather , who was a mechanical engineer , always said that there is no such thing as a "problem" . He urged all of his grandchildren to never use that word . He told us to see "challenges and opportunities" instead of problems . He said that in the seed of a so called problem is a challenge to overcome a hurdle , and an opportunity to learn from the design of that same hurdle . Doug , you never claim to be an "expert" in anything , be it welding , engineering , boat building , sailing , etc . One thing you are is "real" . Those of us who like you , like you for the same reason other people dislike you . You shoot straight from the hip . You are true to yourself . When you don't know something , you ask someone who does . You have no detectable ego . I really enjoy watching you work , and I know that anyone who chooses Seeker as their research vehicle , has aboard the most important piece of equipment , you . I have no doubt you will reach every port you set sail to . Thank you for enriching my life . Robert .

Hey Doug, glad to see you're doing well in the new year! Im sure it's been asked before, so forgive me for having missed it in the comments, but what is keeping you from just dropping Seeker onto a barge and towing said barge to a point where you don't need a crazy amount of insurance to drop her into the river? Im sure you could find somewhere on the river where there is a dis-used industrial area with stable ground to put a crane onto it and then lift Seeker just enough to get the barge out from under her. Maybe I misunderstood the nature of the insurance you need, but from what I can gather from the videos, the major sticking point is the port's insurance requirements just in case she goes down while inside the port, thus disrupting their business. If you could avoid that scenario, wouldn't that allow you to just operate with the normal boat insurance?

The facts are Captain Doug, the Batavia Coast is littered with wrecks that date back to the time of the East Indian Spice route, it appears that the Dutch had made contact with the Australian continent preceding Captain Cook's expedition following the path of Venus. I lived , worked and Skippered in the commercial fishing industry for many years along and around the Abrolhos Islands including diving extensively. I lived on the very island group where the said tragedy took place, the Island amongst the southern group that I lived on was the only Island that has a Church. Cleaning up trash from the shore now? Are you trying to be more awesome Doug? As you have built this boat you have highlighted a piece of advise and method of teaching that my father taught me in addition to demonstrating an excellent piece of advice for learning that he also gave me: for learning, if you don't know the answer, ask somebody that might know it. The other one is take apart, build, and do repairs on mechanical and electrical devices so you understand how they work. Understanding the prints and diagrams is good. Knowing the theory of operation is needed for starting off. But actually understanding and interacting with the little details of a working machine or electronic device is needed before you can truly understand and work with such systems, especially when repairing and optimizing them. Once you have such basics, moving on to higher engineering of such things is possible (my little brother demonstrated this when he got his MS in Engineering), but if you skip it, you make basic mistakes, like leaving the tolerance spec. on that pump float too large to fit in the housing.

A few more things off the list of oh crap something else to fix. Not a bad thing though. Nice seeing some trash clean up though, would love to see more people taking a little time to pick up some stuff. Sometimes it's as simple as picking up a piece here and there. Talked with the mayor where I am at currently and should be able to get some leeway (since there is no swimming allowed) for diving around the dock here to clean stuff up under the water. Lake bottom is pretty muddy most area's and it's pretty murky so it's tough to find much without sonar but I can probably find a few things around the dock area to get out of there. Plus they are doing something where they need to figure one of the deeper parts of the lake. Going to try and hit Lake Tenkiller in September to help with the Tidy Up Tenkiller event and will probably do a couple cylinders down in Ardmore at Lake Murray as well. Just so much stuff to do on a house when it's nice out that I don't know how much spare time I will have for it all. Still roofing the house here, sadly waiting for the weather to be right to get another section done then I get to start the other half. Picked up the Ridge vent and cap shingles today along with some extra of that ice and water barrier underlayment. Sadly was cheaper to head to Wichita KS to get some of that stuff than to order it locally, and that includes the extra 30 bucks for fuel. Went to the Salt mine in Hutchinson as well and just made a day of it all, WELL worth going to check out sometime. Just don't lick the salt, lol.

Will you ever get insurance. Must be tough. What's the value? Who knows? How can they make sure it's safe to standard. Inspect it? A ship without blueprints singed off by engineers? Who did the numbers? What credentialsdo they have? Who knows if it floats? It must be a very slim part of society and there are prob tons of bureaucratic problems relating to this. I'm really curious to know what it takes in a free country to put that thing into water these days.

Pretty much just crew that have special skills, Charlie for navigation, Dave for welding, and Brian for cabinets. The rest is just smaller projects that I do alone. We are not allowed other visitors while at the port.
