Ive used these 2 seasons and pretty good but kind of uncomfortable when used alone for long sits...not bad alone for a real short 2 hour evening hunt when in a hurry to get set up. I put it on tree for backside before I put platform on if a long sit. It's nice when all set up but a pain in the ass to manage all that gear at top of tree without something clanging. I really had to take a lot of time stealth stripping everything and take my time. Also, When ratcheting u can eliminate all clicking noise by holding the small metal pieces on the side of ratchet that hit the low part of teeth after they clear the high part. Can ratchet it literally noise free....that clicking is LOUD come end of November/December. Nice video.

Thanks for the review! I changed the ratchet strap over to an OCB. I tried both. Personally, I prefer the OCB.

How did your OCB hold compared to the ratchet? I tried mine and no matter how hard I cranked on it, it didn’t hold nearly as well as the ratchet.

@@SaddleHunter I tried both straps on a pretty good sized Walnut. Like most walnuts, the bark is thick and corky on this tree. Truthfully, it was easier and a lot less noisy to get the OCBuckle as tight, maybe tighter than the ratchet strap. Not to mention the weight savings, if you are counting ounces... I don't want to hijack, but if it helps somebody else, I picked up the strap @ doublesteps.com/product-category/straps/

@@beaverwithachainsaw Hi Dave, What specific strap did you use? Thanks in advance....

@@jhillyt Eastern Woods Outdoors is where I got the strap. After using the steps quite a bit, the strap is beginning to show some wear. The ocb strap is made from lighter material than the rachet strap that is included with the ring of steps. I hope this helps. Good hunting!

I use screw in steps for most of my ring of steps and those nubs at the end of the steps are going to be a pain after a couple of hours and will bother your feet. Check out the squirrel steps with an OCB , or if you can find them the Ameristeps that are no long produced.

Looks like a good option for fall. If you get board share a link to them, I have done a quick google search with no luck other than forum talk. Thanks again for sharing and have a blessed weekend. Dale

What particular make and model saddle platform or ring of steps would you recommend for new saddle hunter (comfortable in trees and transitioning from hunting with climbers and hang on stands)? What is your favorite?

There's a lot of good ones. For a single panel, I'm super impressed with the Cruzr (review coming soon). For a two panel I like the ESS, but it's got a learning curve and benefits from some modifications. The Recon is more straightforward and is a good starter choice. A platform will add comfort over a ring of steps. Personally I prefer a smaller platform that packs well. I would recommend the Predator or Predator XL if you want a little more real estate

Good job on video but i have to say this set up will be noisy, clunky and hard to set up in most hunting situations. I'll stick to the platform setup. Thanks for sharing.
