You could run a ewg hook on the back and round bend on the front so you’re covered whether the fish is slapping or eating! Seems like a no brainer.

Trebles are super expensive and I dont see why ppl spend so much $ on them. And maybe im doing it wrong but so far what has worked for me is I use Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp 3x round bend trebles. You get 20 of em for $4.50 and they arent the sharpest out of box but I just use a sharpener or file to hone them. But what is ur opinion or input on Eagle Claw trebles and do you think its a good idea or not??? I dont want to weaken the hook and if I hook a 7+ pounder and bend my hooks i will be forever depressed.
@tacticalbassin

I suppose it comes down to budget. If time is less valuable than $$$ then sharpening is a great plan. If you're short on time, its worth the money to get hooks that are way, way sharper. But even so, there is a lot more to it than that. I think you'd really benefit from watching this video through to the end just one time. It will help your outlook even if you decide not to make any changes at all. If you watch it drop me a comment on the other end and we'll talk about it more. -Matt kzitem.info/news/bejne/qWOD3pyrhmqWhXo

I've unintentionally got some pretty big catfish while cranking the bottom for bass. When they get in that 14 pound plus range they really destroy a lot of stock hooks! A 14 pound catfish is a really good test of your line and knot strength Lmao.
@tacticalbassin

We have that problem here on Clearlake as well. We catch a TON of channel cats on virtually everything we throw for bass.
@simplecircuit

It happens here in TN too. There's nothing like a big flathead (10+lbs) on a 6XD. that's when I wish I wasn't running triple grips. They are impossible to get out of a big catfish's mouth.
@mr.fatbasstard648

TacticalBassin every time it happens to me I think I've caught the lake record largemouth or spotty. Then it starts to feel like you're pulling in a old tire and you know it's a big ol'Cat. lol Thanks Tim for the hook change out vid. I fixed the vid link in case you want a little chuckle. It only last 19 seconds. You can't see it in the video but two of the belly trebles were bent out and one of the tail trebles too. Was just happy to get my crankbait back :-)
@mr.fatbasstard648

simplecircuit oh yeah I know the feeling sometimes I just bend them out to get the catfish on his way and get my crankbait back. Lol. If you're lucky the catfish will just bend them out for you. Tight lines brother

What about using smart links or quick links I can't remember what their called exactly. They're set to a certain pound test so if you have some 20 pound smart links and you fish your crankbait with 30-pound braid when you get snagged up on a rock or a log you can tug on the line instead of breaking off and losing your crankbait these split Rings will open and released the hook so you dont loose your bait.
@tacticalbassin
8 жыл бұрын
I remember those. The biggest issue I have with those links is they are opened by "constant pressure". Little fish don't put constant pressure on, they shake a lot... but giant bass do. I'd hate for the one time it opens to be the time you had a giant bass on the line.

A good friend of mine (Hollywood Fishin) asked me if I thought red hooks helped me catch more fish. I told him, yes, I believe they do. He replied...well, that's all that counts.
