This video demonstrates the process of properly aligning the CKP sensor on a Mazda 2.3L Turbo MZR engine. This process is applicable to both the Mazdaspeed 3 and Mazdaspeed 6 vehicles.
Good Video answered all the questions i had to setup this sensor properly.

Could you please make a video about timing chain. Your video here is the clearest one on youtube and very informative. You already did the first part of timing in this video.

I actually didn’t set the internal timing of the engine as I bought it from Overspeed Motorsports already set but I agree that would be a very helpful video for someone to produce. Thanks for your positive feedback on this video though!

You can also use a bolt through the harmonic balancer to the timing cover designed to reference the harmonic balancer. This is not to take away from your fantastic knowledge base.

Thanks for sharing and yes I’ve heard of that method as well although I haven’t personally tried it. If you don’t have the STT and you’re in a bind then I’d say go for it. My only concern would be to make sure the engine is at TDC and not a half cycle off. Also the STT method eliminates backlash as you rotate until it hits it. The bolt method will have some bolt to hole clearance that could allow for some rotational variance but I feel it will still get you closely aligned.

What happens if this fork is not used? Bevause 2carpros video did it without using the fork. I did it that way and my car is working. What possible errors or issues could arise? Thank you. Also didn't use the longer peg.

It can be done with the engine in the vehicle but obviously access will be more restricted. I suggest using the camera on your phone to take a pic straight on of the sensor to make sure the alignment is correct as you obviously will not be able to look directly in front of it.

My question is what if crankshaft position sensor has bad adjustment? As I know if is really bad the engine wont start. But what if the mistake is really small it can cause misfire or something?
@speed6dan998
Жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that this sensor is how the ECU knows where the engine is at in its cycle. If the adjustment is off either way it will result in advancing or retarding the timing which will cause it to run rough. If it is off too much you are correct in saying that it won’t start.

My personal experience on the matter was that even a slight variation in the alignment of the sensor to the crank pulley resulted in detonation under high load situations, heavy acceleration, etc. and rough idle symptoms bad enough to feel similar to worn out motor mounts

@@speed6dan998not trying to be a shit stirrer or anything but if the sensor adjusts the position of the crank.. then why is it so important to align the sensor and the teeth for top dead center? Genuine question I swear.. also.. would a crank relearn basically do that for you if you have a scanner that can do it?

Indeed it will. Perhaps barely snug the two bolts where you can still rotate it with some pressure applied but it will hold the position. Use your phone’s camera to take a pic of the alignment. Keep adjusting and repeating till you get it aligned then torque bolts.

I have a 2002 Ranger 2.3 and I used this process. However I used the 9th tooth not 21st. A difference in engines. The hole in harmonic balancer lines up with case and CPS lines up with 9th tooth only. Probably same as 2.5.
@ryanmemolo3646

So after doing all this I found that when I go to count the 20 teeth, my CSPS isn’t able to line up with the 20th tooth, unless I rotate the crank shaft counter clockwise just a little bit to have it line up at the highest setting the sensor will allow. Idk if I’m doing something wrong or if I have to take the valve cover off and align the cam shafts with the plate then do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!🙏

@ryanmemolo3646

@@dustinhull8590 I’m still putting my engine back together, I’m in the middle of a swap rn on my speed. But I think the issue that I was having with pin that I bought, is that the diameter of the pin itself might be 1-2 millimeter to skinny. so what it was doing was allowing the crank to ever so slightly pass TDC. So what I ended up doing was rotating the crank pulley to where the hole on pully was lining up perfectly with the hole on the timing cover. Once I had that in place I was able to line up my CSPS to the 20th tooth. Haven’t got a chance to see if that works tho. Won’t find out until I do my first start up on my swap. But if you end up trying that method and it works for you, please let me know lol🙏
