Grass landing strip are the worst of them all. The grass is uneven and traps the wheels and then... the plane crashes. Cut the grass very low or concrete the landing strip. Bitumen is also good as long as it is smooth. Grass is only good for model gliders or picnic.

The rudder did not hit the ground hard ! the impact from the bounce was enough to separate the motor from the firewall, after an impact with the floor don't pull high G upward maneuvers..... be gentle go around and land.

If the landing gear is to soft spring, pilots will experience their planes to bounce. This means the plane returns in to the air at a much lower speed and stall - fall back on to the runway with terrible consequence. Fred

Yes Peter, Thank you for watching my ScaleJet cannel video! The high G maneuverdid the last needed stress for the firewall to seperate. Just to explain: Peter (the Pilot) was performing allow level torque roll. I did not record this part, it is not interesting enough for viewers. When I saw through the view finder the rudder hitting the ground being 90 degrees deflected when I hit the record switch of my camera. To late to see the full impact. It is possible that the elevator control was also affected, explaining the abrupt7 high - maneuver. Greetings, Fred

Hi, I'm just curious, I don't know much about RC airplanes, but is there a reason that the shocks are as stiff as they are? Wouldn't it be a much smoother takeoff and landing if the shocks were a little bit softer?

This is good example why I don't like too small and too fast airplanes - too short reaction time. On the other hand, too big airplane, if something bad happen - lot of damage due to heavy parts (read: expensive). Wingspan 1 - 2 meters are okay, and slow flyer preferably (as I am getting older, my reaction time increases).

Hallo Mick, Thanks for watching my video! Your comment is appreciated. And you are correct. Our fields in Ireland where "primitive" but in time, we improved well. Concrete etc are out of the qiuestion - too expensive here. As regards clips from Airshows - the placesare often Full Size glider fields and grass is only cut suitable for models a week before the event. See some other videos of mine at KZitem ScaleJetFred and see well maintained grass runways in Roundwood, County Wicklow, Ireland. Greetings Fred

Flying a plane at the ground or just near the ground is not landing. A pilot must descend using reduced power setting, control speed with attitude and when in ground effect, slow the plane to just above the stall speed to land when the lift has completely disappeared. Land nose high.

You need to understand the correct modeler's terminology. Normal wear and tear. These referrers to broken props, landing gear fails and scraped off paint. Minor Damage, this includes a bottle of CA or application of Epoxy and back in the air the next day. Major Damage, anything that keeps it grounded for one to three weeks of rebuilding. A Crash, that's when it fits back in the box it was built from, in about the same number of pieces you started with. Or you laugh that it fits in the car easier. (60 plus years modeling and RC flier).
