Week 3 of 2012 was absolutely nuts You had this game, the Ravens/Patriots SNF thriller, the Fail Mary, the Jags beating the Colts on a game-winning 80-yard TD pass inside the final 2 minutes, the Jets/Dolphins game going into OT, and the Chiefs/Broncos game going into OT. We ended up leaving early thinking the Titans clinched the Dub, but as we walked towards the exit the Lions ended up scoring and were lining up for the onside kick . Half of Detroit fans were running back to the gates trying to get back end. Had to watch overtime off the jumbotron from the bridge. Never leave a game til the clock hits 0:00. Calvin Johnson was tackled at the one yard line four times that year (happened in the third quarter of this game), leading to a lot of annoying short rushing TDs. A weird little anomaly that kept his stats from being even more impressive than they actually were, and it held down Stafford's passing TDs.
@joetroutt7425
3 жыл бұрын
He had to pass that many times when they were always coming from behind.
@anthonyhutchins2300

Not really a weird anomaly... That's like the Patriots. They used to punch in TDs with run plays all the time. Brady could have had 60 TD passes on 07.
@MrDunloMusic
3 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyhutchins2300 It’s an anomaly because the amount of times Johnson, and the whole team, were tackled at the one yard line is unusually high. Lions were tackled inside the five a league high 23 times. This explains the drastic drop in Stafford TDs from 2011 to 2012. You cherry-picked the best offense ever, but even still, their entire team only had 5 one yard rushing TDs that year (based on a quick glance at their box scores by me) -Heath Evans (Randy Moss tackled at the one) -Heath Evans (Kevin Faulk tackled at one after a 9 yard gain) -Kyle Eckel (Eckel tackled at the one after a previous rush) -Heath Evans (Moss tackled at the one after a 6 yard gain) -Laurence Maroney (drive started at the 2 thanks to a good punt return So, only three times were they tackled at the one on pass plays, and one of those was a running back on a 9 yard pass. That whole team - the best offense ever - got tackled at the one fewer times than 2012 Calvin Johnson.

Since they're playing on Sat. 12/26, is there any chance 49ers v. Cardinals from Week 5 of 2004 might be in the cards (no pun intended) for next week? That game had Fitz's first NFL TD and a wild comeback from the Niners.

I was at the game (Titans season ticket holder). I sit in the upper deck, and there were a lot of Lions fans around me. Both they and me were just bewildered and amazed at all the crazy stuff that happened in the game. I will always remember this game.

You need to watch the 4th quarter of the Vikings/Ravens game in 2013. 5 TD's in the final 2 minutes.

We saw this game live from the second deck of now-Nissan Stadium. I was Lions fan living in Tennessee. This game was wild and absolutely worth the cost of the tickets. Cheers y'all.

Back during the replacement ref frenzy
@eternalreign2313

This would be the last game for those replacement refs. The fail mary happened to the Packers the next day so Goodell put an end to it. A lot of teams screwed over those 3 weeks, but screwing the Packers is not allowed. This same day, the 49ers used 5 timeouts against the Vikings in the 4th quarter.

I think it's fine cuz otherwise you would always want to possess the ball 2nd so you know what score to beat. The way it is now, there is advantages to both going 1st and 2nd.
@MrDariusJWilliams
3 жыл бұрын
@@ShiningWonder Maybe, but it's not a guarantee that the 2nd team would score. They still have to run plays and try to score, so nothing would be handed to them. If the 1st team's offense scores a TD, then their defense should do a better job than the other defense by preventing a score, which would tie the game or relinquish the lead. Also, I'm not sure if teams would elect to get the ball 2nd on offense all the time in that scenario, but if they chose to do so, it could bring a whole new strategy to the game, which i don't think is necessarily a bad thing.
@ShiningWonder
3 жыл бұрын
@@MrDariusJWilliams Good points but the 2nd team still has all the advantages. When the 1st team goes to 4th down, they won't know whether to go for it or punt it. Unlike the 2nd team who will obviously go for it on 4th if they are down (giving them an extra down everytime.) Also if the 1st team throws a pick 6 or commits a safety then the game is over before the 2nd team even hits the field. Everybody will want to go 2nd. I know it stinks in the current rules that the 1st team wins with a TD, but anything can go wrong for them giving the 2nd team the upper hand. So I think it's fine the way it is IMO.

As a Lions fan, 2012 was such a brutal campaign. Coming off a playoff season, the Lions had a lot of offensive talent and high hopes for the future. The 2012 squad lit up the scoreboard and could play with anyone, yet kept finding ways to lose one close game after another...after another...after another. This particular game summed it up. They outplayed the Titans but still lost thanks to special teams mistakes, bad ball security and ill-timed brain-fart play calls. Then there was the Thanksgiving game that year (hint: Schwartz Rule). Brutal.

The most points scored in a quarter since 1991 was a 2007 game Bears vs Lions, 48 points scored in the 4th, Lions won 37-27. Another miracle comeback in 2001, Bears down 21-7 to Cleveland with 32 seconds left in the game. But Bears actually complete the comeback with an OT win

This and the Detroit/Cleveland game from Stafford's rookie year are two of the best games I've ever seen. The Lions may be...well, the Lions, but man oh man do they have a knack for producing wild ones.
