In formal Filipino, Japan is Hapon, england is Inglatera, france is Pransiya, fencing is eskrima. These words sounds closer to French because these are of spanish origin. Gymnastics is himnastiko, bubble is bula. Markus is really young and his generation may not really know the Filipino counterparts but that's how language evolves.

Those are spanish words meaning tagalog did not created words for them. Tagalog is not a complete language it lacks many words. The philippine government needs to create more tagalog words to make tagalog speakers speak in full tagalog easier.

Just a note, the lexicon in the Philippines is greatly influenced by centuries of colonialism and trade, and the education system is mainly patterned to American style, hence many of the words used in everyday conversations are borrowed. Especially nowadays, many kids have English as their first language and struggle with Filipino. A combination of Tagalog and English, called TagLish, is the most commonly used pseudo-language.
