Are my bolts screws nails wood and what not now more likely to shake is there a way to counter that, is doing the treehouse on 1 tree safer if my higher off the ground? Is there a height limit 3) I plan on building this in New Jersey the weather is strong winds snow and stuff dose that make a difference 4) what kind of wood screws and bolts should I use to insure safety and stability and if I plan on spending extra money to increase safety how much do you estimate it will cost 800? 1000? Nice house! How did you attach the 2x4’s of the ladder to the tree? Also, how sturdy is it?
@MarcelsWorkshop
4 жыл бұрын
The first layer of 2x4 on the stairs were nailed into the tree with 3-4x 6 inch spiral nails. 2x4's are only 1.5 inches thick, So there is around 4.5 inches of each nail in the tree. After I did the first layer of steps, I decided I wanted them wider and longer for more foot room and area to grab onto. so the 2nd layer is 2x3's nailed into the 2x4's with 3-4x 4 inch spiral nails, so the nail is going fully through both logs and another inch or so into the tree. Seems pretty sturdy, its survived 3 years through harsh winters and a few wind storms with 100km/h gusts and nothings fallen off or loosened up or broken yet.

This is such a wicked cool treehouse. I love the fact you kept it. So simple and all natural. I also noted that the double thick vinyl tarp probably blocks out most of any light and keeps attention away at night when you're running a lantern. You've got balls of steel to utilize that ladder structure. However it is the 100% natural way to go! Personally I would be loading up my six string acoustic in my backpack guitar case and playing my songs All the way up top to The treetop dwellers high up top in that tree house.

Thanks! Yeah when it's all sealed up not much light gets in or out. haha yeah I often either keep one hand on a rope that is tied to the top of the tree in case a step breaks or at least make sure I'm utilizing as many steps as I can at once, so if one were to give out I got 2 or 3 others I can instantly shift my weight to. No issues yet though. It would definitely be a peaceful place to jam out!

Fantastic!!! I had 2 tree houses as a boy. It seems like the rungs to your tree ladder are nailed into the tree. What I found is that after time the tree slowly expels the nails. I had a nasty fall. So a word of advise is to secure the rung with wire. Still a nice project.

Thanks! Although I've been noticing the opposite issue, the tree is growing around the nails holding them in place while pushing on the boards. So the nails are slowly getting pulled through the boards causing some boards to split.

I don't think I can really explain it in any way that would be useful. I don't know the proper way of doing it, I just completely winged it. The basic outline of steps steps were: - Nail 1ft cuts of 2x4 into the tree with 6" spiral nails to make the ladder. Using the previous steps to support myself while creating the next step up. After the ladder was finished I decided I wanted it wider so nailed 2ft cuts of 2x3's into each 2x4. - Next step was once I reached the part of the tree where the trunk Y's into 2 trunks I nailed a 2x6 or 2x8 just above the split in the trunk with a bunch of 6" spiral nails. then nailed another 2x6 or 2x8 parallel to the first on the other side of the tree. - Then nailed a bunch of 2x4's to the 2x6's, perpendicular to them, spacing each about a foot a part. - Then nailed another set of 2x4's on top of the first set of 2x4's perpendicular to them. This gave me a pretty solid square platform to start working off of. - I then nailed 2x4's going from each corner of the platform and on the ends of the 2x6's, on a 45 degree angle back down to the tree trunk for additional support. Also attached 2x4's from the platform to any additional branches coming out of the tree I could for even more support. - Then I nailed deck boards into the last set of platform 2x4's, perpendicular to them to complete the floor. - Then started nailing half length 2x3's up from the platform 2x4's to start the walls. - Then 3 rows of 2x3's going across the wall beams for more support. - Then added a full length 2x4 on each end, the middle, and across the top of the 3 to create the peak. - Then a bunch of half length 2x3's going from the wall to the center peak board to create the frame for the roof. - Then just cut up and stapled/velcroed a bunch of thick tarp all around to fill in the walls and roof. - Then created a trap door to cover my entrance hole. In my upgrade timelapse video you can see how I eventually built a balcony, re did the roof without most of the velcro making it more solid but not convertible. Made a loft and a couple other upgrades.
