It happens when the parents dont teach the spoiled brat like the cousin that the world doesnt evolve around her. The cousin in the 1st story and the sister in the 2nd are 2 peas in a pod

Story 1: Wow, that cousin defintly is crazy. She has to realize that the reason the OP got married before her is because he found the love is life first, which is his husband husband. She deserved not getting any money for the way she treated the OP. Story 2 oh yeah I understand what OP is going through. My Maternal cousin walks over my maternal aunt and treats her like garbage every now and than. He dropped out of high school and did nothing with his life for a while and kept getting arrested for DUI, However He has Improved and got his Ged has a job and a Daughter But he still treats my aunt like garbage and She doesn't tell him that enough is enough. The mom and dad this story needs to put their foot down and Get Jane to grow up and be responsible. This is why parents need to be parents to their kids. Story 3: Op is Not The jerk for how the sister in law acted. If the sister in law And brother can't Have a baby via pregnancy, they can adopt or get a surrogate. Miscarriages are terrible and I know the sister in law is going through grief, but it's not an excuse for the way she acted. Story 4 I'm Nerurodivergent too and I don't act how Ali is in this story. People need to respect boundries. This friend has to know the OP needs some alone time with her Boyfriend. Op needs to put her foot down and say "no your not coming on this trip with me and my boyfriend."

Story 1: Yeah that cousin is beyond toxic here.... and you almost have to wonder how she was raised for her to have this level of jealousy towards the OP here, or if there was any bad blood between them. Good on the OP's husband for ignoring her advances, and good on the family for not putting up with her BS and not coming down on the OP. I think kicking her out and cutting her off was a little bit extreme, but its also good to know that bad actions like hers have consequences. Hopefully the OP goes no contact with her. Story 2: This is exactly why you dont coddle and over-spoil your children, especially the youngest ones... they turn into entitled jerks like this. Parents should never ever be scared of their kids. The OP's parents really need to knuckle up and do something about Jane here because all of this is unacceptable. Also, the whole stunt with the dad and the car made things worse overall too. Story 3: OP is not a jerk here, the SIL is a maor drama queen. If this was a one time incident, then i could see the OP being a little bit insensitive here, but this seems to happen literally everywhere the SIL is at the same place as the OP and his wife. I understand that miscarriages are upseting and traumatic for many women, but that does not justify the SIL's actions at all here. I dont get why she can't even remotely be happy for the OP's wife here. She's just stirring the pot here and for no reason. Story 4: OP really needs to tell this 'friend' NO here...and dont 'ask' her not to come along, you need to TELL her not to come along, and be strict about it, dont try to be 'gentle' about it. Set some serious boundaries here... and it seems like you need to set them for your everyday life, not just this upcoming trip.

In the second story with the sister-in-law who sadly apparently can't carry a pregnancy. *IF* I understand things. A. The OP's family understandably got excited about a new baby in the family. B. The OP's brother und sister-in-law got upset by it because they claimed that it was "insensitive." C. The sister-in-law was upset because the OP's wife und her pregnancy were the center of attention at *HER* baby shower und gender reveal parties. The OP is not the arsehole, what he said was long overdue. Was the OP und his wife supposed to leave their baby at home because the brother und sister-in-law can't have a baby?

I understand the sister in law is upset but OP is NTA, He is just fed up of the sister in law ruining yet another family occasion. Btw I’m a female who was unable to have children. Yes I was upset when my cousin had her baby not long after I was told (wrongly) if I fell pregnant I would die. But it didn’t stop me from being happy for my cousin. I was extremely lucky that I have a step son and now have grandchildren and great grandchildren. I’m sure the brother and sister in law are needing therapy. Good luck with your new family. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

@angelamurray2725 I agree, it sounds as if the sister-in-law is long overdue for some serious counseling. Und possibly the brother. I wonder if the sister-in-law stays home 24/7 in order to avoid ever seeing any children?

OP's friend in that last story sounds like she might have a neurodivergence of some kind. I'm suspecting ADHD or autism, or even a blend of both. She doesn't seem to understand social cues, she sounds very clumsy (a common trait for neurodivergent people) and she has difficulties maintaining healthy boundaries in her friendships. The rejection sensitivity is also a factor. I'm really sorry that you are having to deal with these difficulties. I really hope your friend understands that you wish to be alone with your boyfriend for your trip. In any case, kudos to you for being so patient with her so far, and still being friends despite all the problems.

Story 3: What OP said was harsh. Its not sister faults that she has a miscarriage anymore then its wife's fault she is producing healthy kids. Story number four: Ali is no friend. Neurodivergent disorder aside, there is no excuse for this behavior. I have many friends who are on the spectrum, have ADHD or are even bipolar disorder. It's not a blank check to be a jerk to everyone while treating the whole world like it's your stage and you're the only star. Ali sounds like a total narcissist. At bare minimum, she has no respect for boundaries, zero regard for the word know being a complete sentence as well as a totally valid response and nothing resembling accountability. All the signs are there. I can't unsee it. The constant need to have everybody's undivided attention, be in the spotlight and have all eyes on her. It just screams extremely fragile Pacific Ocean-sized ego and poor self-esteem. I imagine that even having a difference of opinion or a minor disagreement, Ali would react as if OP was being purposefully mean to her. Throwing in chronic lying and hypochondria for good measure, she sounds like an absolute nightmare. Screw telling her gently. She needs a verbal butt whooping. OP is not her friend. She's her supply. Narcissists treat individuals, who have a resource that they need and covet, like they're the light of their lives. Only for the moment, though. If OP gives Ali the verbal slapping she desperately needs to receive, like yesterday, I guarantee you Ali will go running off to someone else and make them her new bestie. Also I'm going to take a guess that she isn't really that accident prone at all. She just goes about getting attention in any way that she can including purposely hurting herself so she can get sympathy. She doesn't sound like a well person at all. Lastly, Ali has invaded every part of OP's life because she doesn't have good personal boundaries. OP will end up losing her relationship if she doesn't put her foot down.

story 3: I believe the original poster was absolutely in the right cause you cant be trying to put someone else down because of your problems, thats not how you deal with things. There is a thing called communication which is meant to be a strong thing in families which she clearly didn't do she could have taken his wife away for a small talk and kindly talked about how its a touchy subject talking about her baby and try and tone it down instead of being unnecessarily rude about it even tho the original poster could have said it a bit nice I think it would justify how her rudeness would upset him and he could also talk to his brother since they should be close he should understand that his brother obviously is upset for him unable to have a child but shouldn't belittle others because of it

Mary needs to grow up and stop focusing on her attention on op. She could have all those things if she takes the time to accomplish those things on her own, instead of wasting her time having tantrums like a spoilt brat, and hitting on a guy that is clearly gay is inappropriate because trying to persuade them to be straight, it’s not only rude but it also comes under being homophobic.

I'm not going to lie if people told people how they truly felt about each other and said things without all these social cues and mind games to tell somebody that they want them to come or not to a vacation, life would be a lot simpler. In honesty the original poster in The last story just needs to tell her friend no you can't come, I want to go with my boyfriend and if you got a problem with it go pound sand.

For story one, I don't have a situation like this but what the person reading it commented reminded me of something that happened at work. So, the comment of Mary not focusing on her own life and because she's 22, you would expect her to not be like this. Some people just are like this. At work recently, there was a guy (an adult, I assume, since he was doing his own grocery shopping and looked to be older than his 20's) who yelled at my boss about why he has to pay for groceries when people just steal cuz security isn't doing their job. It was so loud that I'm pretty sure the whole store could have heard. And then he left, but he shouted again halfway across the store as he did. Like, buddy, no one is stopping you from stealing either. If you want to, go ahead. You said yourself that security doesn't do their job, so what's stopping you? It's not our fault you have morals unlike those thieves. Point is. I'm not even surprised at half the crap people pull these days cuz of retail. This story is the same, not surprising. Some people (a lot more than we would like to admit, actually) are just entitled jerks.

Im going to make my feeling on story 3 be known. It sounds like the friend is attention seeking to an extreme extent. Her being mentally handicapped isnt an excuse for that, because she could/should get therapy that could help her address her narcissistic tendency of wanting to be the center of attention all the time. I may be more charitable than i should, i am autistic so i kinda feel bad for the friend in the sense that i know how being neurodivergent can be.
