Saw you out there just as you caught your 4th. The bite turned off like a light switch around 6:30. I was going to say hi and thanks for all the information and entertainment you provide, but that kayak seems to have a high gear zipping around the chaos. We brought 7 over the rail, pink and orange hoochies and a pink/moonjelly fly.

I was out there on Monday, July 8th in my PA 14. I passed you on my way out, as you were already done and heading back upriver. I caught 2 right away, struggled for the 3rd, and just couldn’t get that elusive 4th. Man it got hot! Not even a breeze out there. Will be heading back to Portland from Minnesota on Saturday, and will hopefully hit Brewster Sunday night in order to fish Monday morning. Thanks again for the tips!

Saw you out there today. We ended up going about 6/16 today, couldn’t get them to stick. Have you ever tried using a treble hook as the trailer? And do you find letting them take it for a second in the best before getting the rod out of the holder, or is it best to jump on it asap? Thanks for all the info you put out!

I’ve tried trebles it just results in more of a mess in the net, I still lost fish, and I’d rather get my gear back down faster

Great video. Always fun watching your adventures. I was up there early in the month, wasn't as successful as you, caught some fish, but just learning the "rule of the pool". Seems like you catch more along the northern bank side rather than in the middle by the mouth of the Ok. Any reason?

Have you ever considered Folbe or similar quick-release rod holders? I started using them for Sturgeon fishing in Lake Roosevelt I really like them and have them on all of my boats now. I love the frequency of your videos, especially in the pool. Thanks

I used Scotty Orcas but found them to sticky. Unfortunately Folbe doesn’t cater to the gear track kayak community
@glennbooher4298
Ай бұрын
@@spiltmilt I also found the Orcas to be sticky. I like the straight-up pull of the Folbes. The Folbes will interchange with the Scotty mounts at the joints, not the receptacle that mounts to the boat. At the cogs where you adjust rod angle. That is what I do on my boat that has Scotty mounts.

Fantastic job! Do you live in the area and have something to do? I’m only asking cause those of us who go up there for a couple days, find it not very entertaining to sit around the tailgate drinking adult beverages from 8 am till dark to kill the rest of the day?! What else is there to do up there after a limit that quick?!
@spiltmilt

Yes I live right on the pool. Here are some suggestions for nearby fisheries & other things to do: 1.) Lake Chelan Kokanee (only 45 minutes away they bite all day) 2.) Banks Lake Walleye (45 minutes) 3.) The Methow River offers okay trout fishing but some of its feeder streams have excellent native cutthroat and brook trout fishing. The fish aren't huge but still fun on a 3wt or ultralight rod 4.) Check out North Cascades NP, beautiful up there 5.) Giant triploid Rainbow Trout fishing at Rufus Woods 6.) Winery tours in Chelan if you are into that kind of thing 7.) Dry Fall state park is also worth checking out (1.25 hours) 8.) Grand Coulee Dam. They have tours and do a laser light show in the evenings on the dam face.

We were there 25th through the 27th. We really struggled, 3 of us, 12 for 23 over the 3 days. Watching your videos I understood troll speed was .8 to 1.5. It seemed successful boats were fishing almost at a standstill, gear basically straight down, .5 mph or less. Was fun rewatching your videos, recognizing the terrain features. Would you address this speed issue? Thanks
@spiltmilt

Depends on the type of gear they are running and the current (which changes by the hour and day). Also different boats run different types of dodgers and leaders lengths which may explain the difference.
@jmyhre7340
Ай бұрын
They all seemed to be running same basic dodger, short leader, spinner, houchie or naked shrimp. Some swore by anise krill and rock salt, others slammin Sammy XXX, or combination thereof. Some shallow, some deep. Some did well in the evenings, saw lots of nets flying, two nights we fished only got one bite one fish. Was just a very frustrating trip. At least we got our feet wet.

We were on the brewster pool the other day and my buddy (who had never sockeye fished before) asked the same thing and why weren't we using top water stuff to try to catch them. I'm relatively new to sockeye as well and just do what Spilt Milt tells me to do. I didn't know why they jump/surface like that either and googled it. Said they're trying to shake/splash off sea lice.

I don't think so. Brewster pool is still 61 F on the surface and much colder below. The bulk of the fish are past the lower river where temps are highest. Maybe in the Snake but that happens every year.
