I’m seriously considering buying a Pelican catch 130 HDII. After seeing your stability tests and walk throughs. My goal is to eventually practice and gain enough confidence to fish on the kayak in the ocean. With that in mind can you please do a video or two that include a look at the drainage, if water get in. Maybe dump a couple 5gl buckets of water in the kayak while on shore to explain how and why scupper holes drain and differences of the various plugs and what they do. Thank you sir, I’m marathon watching your channel and find it extremely useful.

It seems to me you'd have to be looking for trouble to even come close to flipping that kayak! I heard rumors about Pelican coming out with a "Hobie-like drive" last year, but the last time I waited for a new kayak the Pilot came out and let everyone down, so passed o it. Instead, I bought a used 2014 SP13 instead. I wish I would have waited a little longer. While the SP13 is stable, it kind of sucks because all that internal storage is lost (other than a wallet, car keys, etc.), because there is no access.

Looks like a good entry level set up for those who want to try out the luxury of peddle drives. The deck looks awesome, open and nothing really in the way. Lot's of space for storage with options to add. Stability is questionable, I saw you falling out the yak more than I saw the yak actually flipping over. When it did flip, I had some concern about the drive just falling out like that. Easy fix but should have been thought of by the pelican company. The over all design is awesome, the yak looks great for fishing. Now let's see how it chases wild! Put that mug in some real life fishing situations and make it happen. We all know Pretty don't catch fish, so let's get ugly with this Pelican! That's What's up! ~; )

@Let's Go Fishing! South Florida, you're absolutely right, the drive should not fall out when the kayak flips. If the locking clips feel too loose they can be adjusted by simply removing the top half of the pedal housing and tightening the screw. Nevertheless, we always recommend a leash or strap attaching the drive to the boat just in case you forget to lock it into place ;-)
@LetsGoFishingSfla

@@LetsGoFishingSfla , no, we didn't say that... I believe in Aliex's case the clips were too loose. But once the clips are tight enough, we still suggest using a leash as it's easy to forget to lock the drive in place when you're excited to get out on the water. ;-)

I have owned this kayak for a while now. If you are tall it will be difficult to stand and fish, I would tie a rope and handle to the hull to pull on for assistance on standing. Its fun on the river.. Dont forget your scupper plugs unless you're in the ocean. Rudder deployment is a little tight.. You need to put some strength into it, also the rudder should be larger for its (kayak) size. You have to punch it to get it to turn. If you buy one, buy a backup hydryve when you can. Its $500 to replace. If you want a fishing rig that can carry a full load and induce confidence...buy it! If you want something to fart around on quick and easy.. Avoid it. Great video Alex!

08:00 Wife: "That was it? You Found it?........(Alex: Yes) Ok, lets go" - In other words: Alex, play time is over, time to leave the playground, don't forget to pick up all your plastic toys from the bottom of the lake. Seriously, this kayak is the real deal......How would it compare to the Hobie Mirage Passport 12? The one thing that I've found out so far is that the plastic material/construction of the Pelican seems sturdier and slightly lighter for the size. Hobie's seem to sit lower on the water therefore they feel the most stable in their size range. Pelican seems to have hit a Homerun with this one as far as price, construction, features and using Hobie's own drive technology, which I think is superior to all others. My ONLY real concern would be in the quality/customer service areas. Will the hardware / hull last as long and how good is their customer service? Here Hobie plays second to none.

Alex, found one where I live... Man these things are hard to come by right now. Quick question though, in the drive port, is there a space between the top plastic and the bottom? I think the one I'm looking at got messed up but I don't have anything to compare it to.

@Adam Barker, that gap is completely normal! It's purposefully there because the area acts like one big scupper hole and the gap allows water to easily drain and dry. Plus, it makes rinsing off after saltwater use a breeze.

Buyer beware: The shell isn't bad, stable enough, comfy; I've caught a ton of fish in the this boat. After only 70 miles (6 months) the set screw that holds the rudder cable has chewed through the cable ($40 replacement from Canada took a month,) go get 1/16" stainless steel cable from your hardware store. Now the Hydryve (direct copy from Hobie) has failed, the idler cable snapped. No replacement from Pelican except a complete "core" replacement ($369 BUT isn't available for purchase from Pelican or any retailer....which pelican site directs you to "find a retailer.") Pelican will sell you a complete Hydryve replacment for $550 (which I assume will take another month to get)....have contacted Pelican countless times in the past month, no reply. Take your money and the money you will have to spend and buy a Hobie or AT LEAST plan to buy a Hobie Mirage drive (parts are inexpensive,readily available, and fast to get,) fits right in the Pelican chassis.

It looks like a great kayak for a beginner. But I'm sure it doesnt compare to a Jackson or Hobie when it comes to stability. It's kind of like driving a Pontiac, it's nice until you drive a Cadillac in the same model. Again, a great price point and perfect for beginners.

I have a 120 NXT and honestly cant stand it. Its very unstable and the decking flexes beyond believe. I don't know if I got a bad production run but it's honest the worst kayak I have ever owned. My kids Walmart yaks are more stable than the 120 NXT I have. When you look at peddle yaks, yes this is a beginner entry level yak hands down.
