Both of your recipes look very good. I was amazed at how you stretched the one chicken breast to enough soup for 4-6 people!!😱. But my biggest takeaway is learning how to make the “cream of..” soup!👏👏 I try to use gluten free products and the gluten free cream of soups around here cost a whopping $3.29, which is highway robbery! Now I can make my own with gluten free flour and not be a slave to that overpriced nonsense! Thank you, Emmy!
@simplyfromscratchrecipes

My daughter cannot eat gluten and I thicken all of our soups, sauces, her Mac and cheese with cornstarch, works great and you don't have to worry about the gf flour taste that can be there with some gf flours. Just add the cornstarch to the milk before adding to the melted butter, you will create that cream of soup base. 😀

Oh, what a can of worms you opened, Emmy! My favorite crock pot meal is "refrigerator stew." We all have this in our repertoire. At the end of the month, or the day before pay-day, open the fridge and get out every left-overs container. The whole point of refrigerator stew is to clean out the refrigerator. I take everything that isn't moldy or disgusting, put it in the crock pot, but I stay away from overwhelming flavors like a chili or barbecue, but they go on the side. I throw in all the tired looking veggies and add a stock, season to taste and add rice, pasta or dumplings. Never the same twice, but never any complaints either. We do a whole lot of stuff in the crock pot. It's my second favorite tool in the kitchen after the coffee pot.

A go to meal for the crock pot is potato soup. Don't know exact measurements but you cook frozen hashbrowns and onions in broth, add cream cheese, stir and serve with bacon, sour cream, cheese and green onions if desired. Also, something called crack chicken. It's a few chicken breasts, a bit of broth to keep ot from drying out, and then after you shred it, and drain off the broth (but reserve it), add a packet of ranch dressing mix and a block of cream cheese. Often I do variations and don't do the ranch and do pesto or salsa instead. If the chicken is too thick, then you add broth back.

Funny you should ask for our “go to” crockpot recipe! Mine is currently in the crockpot for dinner. Refried beans! It’s super inexpensive to make and no fat! Mix together in the crockpot: 3 cups rinsed dry pinto beans 2 T. onion flakes 1 seeded and chopped jalapeño (I keep the garden harvest in the freezer so I always have some on hand) 2-3 cloves minsed garlic 1 t. salt 1/2 t. pepper 1/2-1 t. cumin 8 cups water Cook on high for 8 hours. Drain excess liquid (save it) and mash. I usually use my hand blender. Add back drained liquid a little at a time to get to the consistency you like. We use the beans for burritos, tostados, side dish, etc. Hope you enjoy!

I’ve been making this since the early ‘80s. A friend from Hawaii shared it. “12345 Ribs” Ingredients: 1.5lbs boneless country style pork ribs (currently $3.69/lb at Hannaford) 1Tbs dry sherry 2Tbs soy sauce (or coconut aminos) 3Tbs white vinegar (or rice or apple or whatever you have) 4Tbs sugar (or 6 pkts Sweet n Lo) 5Tbs water. (I always double the sauce because it’s so good!) Direction: Put ribs in crockpot. Combine all ingredients except pork ribs in bowl for sauce. Pour sauce over ribs. Either cook on low about 6-8 hrs, high about 3-4 hrs, or in Dutch oven, covered, in 350 degree oven for 1.5-2hrs. For thicker sauce, if desired, make cornstarch/water slurry and add at last minute. Serve over rice, with (frozen) Asian style veggies.

I love your recipes, Emmy, and I can't wait to try your recipe for Cream Soup. Even the off brands of Cream soups are getting more expensive, so making my own should be a great way to save money. I have to admit, it's hard watching your cooking episodes late at night when I am almost ready for bed- I get so hungry watching you make your recipes that I want to go into the kitchen and plunder the fridge. You're wearing my will power down! My easiest, yet yummy go to Crockpot recipe is Italian Chicken. I lightly brown a few boneless, skinless chicken breasts and throw them into the Crockpot with about a third of a bottle of low fat Italian dressing, (purchased cheap at Aldi's or the Dollar Store) and some black pepper. I set the Crockpot to cook five to six hours on the low setting, and the chicken breasts come out wonderfully flavorful and tender. It's smells terrific when cooking as well. I serve with green beans and garlic bread. This recipe is a family favorite and a great time saver on busy days.

In the colder winter months, I love to make Home-made chili in the crockpot. I make it the way my mom always did.

I have mentioned before, we like to make Chex mix in the crock pot. A real energy saver when we make it in the summertime.

I need to try that creamy chicken! My favorite crock pot recipe is tacos. I throw in lean ground meat, onions, beans, corn, cauliflower rice, some salsa, and taco seasoning. It cooks for a few hours and makes a ton of food!

Looks like some wonderful meals!! How much do you think you & Paul spend on groceries per week? Or month?
@FrugalMoneySaver
2 жыл бұрын
We probably spend somewhere around 200 to 250 a month including everything

@@FrugalMoneySaver That is so good. You meals have such great variety! I budget $200 per month for myself, but feel I probably could do better. I saw one single lady budgeting groceries for $25 per week for herself. I rarely buy meat. But still.... everything has skyrocketed.

Those recipes look so good! We do not have a crockpot. What brand do you have? When it cooks for that long do you notice the effect on your electric bill? In our state the Electric Co. went up double on everyone this past month for an increase. This is absolutely crazy! We conserve on electricity as much as possible but to double a bill is outrageous!

Crock pots use a tiny amount of wattage, compared to your oven. Hope, on the Under the Median channel, calculated that her oven costs 36 cents per hour, and crock pot is 3 cents an hour. The stovetop was somewhere in between (sorry, I don’t remember). So crock pots are by far the most economical.

Hi, quick question. If you did add meat to the Ziti would you brown it first or add it raw?
@FrugalMoneySaver

I always brown and drain my meat first.

Donna, loss leaders are always on the front of your supermarket flyer. They are the low priced items that the store uses to draw you in
