I figured, that my West Pest only responds to MIDI-Clock, but not to MIDI-notes from both the Electron Model:Samples and the Yamaha reface DX. Digging into this issue, I found a comment by the user "TooSlowTube" on the sonicstate review on the West Pest which stated that the synth does not receive the "MIDI off" command from his reface CS (see below). I then updated the firmware to 0.9, but unfortunately this did not help.
However, I then found I could make the West Pest respond to the other devices by a weird bug and it only works with sequences, not sustained notes (which the video at hand demonstrates): The West Pest (on MIDI-channel 6) responds to incoming MIDI-notes if another sequence on channel 4 is played (which happens to be a Korg Minilogue XD here). I just discovered this with my latest track where the sequence for the Minilogue was programmed on all 16th notes. I did not test other sequences with rests. It appears as if the West Pest treats incoming MIDI-notes in a similar manner as did older roland synths did with incoming trig data from drum machines.
I hope this issue will be fixed soon, because currently the West Pest is unusable with certain MIDI devices. Find the 0.9 firmware here: www.cre8audio.com/firmware-and-software
This is the comment by TooSlowTube on the sonicstate-Video (kzitem.info/news/bejne/o4qwyKqAj6aggaQ&ab_channel=sonicstate):
"I had to update the firmware on my West Pest, the day I got it, to get it to respond to Note Off from my Yamaha Reface CS.
The Reface CS sends note 24 as a minimum too, so currently, if I want to play any lower, I have to use the buttons on the synth.
If I was fluent in emoji, this is where I'd insert a face palm. It's not like Yamaha is some obscure manufacturer who need to have a special work around provided to be supported properly."
