I've known of this hack for the better part of a decade. Decided to try it again with premiere pro and davinci, and it just looked better on premiere. The best option is to just adjust contrast and exposure appropriately, and avoid the hacks. Making multiple layers with keys and blur just makes for longer render times and more issues.
@colorgradingcentral

The blending function is different than just cranking contrast, especially the way it effects the tonal range and blends blurred pixels. I agree it's a hack in Premiere and FCP but it is right at home in DaVinci. Surprised you liked the results more in Premiere.

@@colorgradingcentralmaybe on the blurring interactions, but interestingly when I just used soft light on the whole image it was the same effect with contrast at the right pivot

Bought cinema grade in hope I will use it often but it’s just so complicated to use on Final Cut Pro X and haven’t used it since first week of purchase. Just hoping there is a in-depth tutorials I am unaware of.

Cinemagrade is such a pain to use in Final Cut Pro, I hardly use it at all. I wish I could use it on an adjustment layer, instead of each individual shot. Also, for me on an M2 Macbook Pro, I can't select hero frames at all, it just gives me the first frame in the clip, not the frame I am on. It also doesn't work on an HDR timeline. I do like this tutorial though!

Have you used groups in Cinemagrade? It allows you to apply looks to groups of clips in a more convenient and controllable way than adjustment layers.

Color grading in Resolve is a breeze and fun. But I have great tools and plugins in FCP and my editing became a second nature there. Is there an efficient round trip methods, tips and precautions that you could advise on. It would be very helpful to elevate my color grading and maintain my fun doing it.

Do we have to do this for each shot in a multiple shot timeline? Or there's a way to copy it to multiple shots without losing the look?
@colorgradingcentral
Жыл бұрын
That’s a fair question as each shot will be unique, you’ll have to repeat this procedure for each one. However, you could copy the correction from one to another and then just refine the key selection.

Just curious why do you use the HSL Qualifier in Resolve but a keyer in Final Cut. Final Cut also gives you the HSL sliders when you use a color mask.
@colorgradingcentral
Жыл бұрын
That’s a fair question however, the key aspect here is that you are creating a composite of two different layer, the keyer in final cut, doesn’t actually separate the skin from the background or alpha channel
@JedAckerman
Жыл бұрын
@@colorgradingcentral Correct, but wouldn't duplicating the clip, adding the color mask with HSL sliders to isolate the skin tones and adding a blur then changing the blend mode accomplish that effect without having to use the keyer as a workaround?
