In database theory, you will see the terms "attribute" and "tuple" used to describe "columns" and "rows," however in Access (and in almost every Access book I've ever read - and I have dozens of them) the terms are generally referred to as "fields" and "records," which is what I prefer for my lessons. Microsoft Access ITSELF refers to them as "fields." Just open a table and go into Design View and you'll see "Field Name" to represent each "column."

Hope you can answer a quick question for me. With the new Access, I want to make a form/app with a data base; basically I am inputting market data selling and buying amounts and then it will compare all and tell me the best profits and where to trade them. I want to use access over excel because I want a nice gui that asks for the info and a nice place to input it. This is for a computer game. Now my question is After I create this. Is there a way to save it or convert it so others (friends etc.) can use it without having access? I thought I had read somewhere that access creations can now basically work like an app. This is my first time using access in about 15 or so years so wasn't sure about how it's working now. Thanks.

ronin51670 If you want to use all of the features of the Access desktop application, then you'll need to at least distribute your database with the Access Runtime: 599cd.com/XOJNSL - the alternative is to build an Access Web App which I don't recommend unless your database is REAL simple: 599cd.com/XAConWEB

I have been experimenting with my new DB but I get nothing when I sort by phone number and cannot figure out why. I used the short text field. I entered all of my phone numbers in the exact same format of (000) 000-0000 I entered everything in the exact same format in the phone number criteria field of my query and I get all blanks on the return. I have tried it with numerous numbers in that field and get the same results every time. The field is just set to short text and not formatted for data to be inputed in any specific way and all of my data in that field is entered in the exact same format, I didn't miss any spaces or anything but all of the other fields return data when I enter it in the criteria of those fields, this seems to be the only field that doesn't work properly and I am at a loss as to why. I have checked everything many times over. HELP LOL BTW I absolutely love this tutorial and am going through your other level one tutorial, you do a fantastic job of teaching this and making it easy to understand.

Heather Catizone Sometimes you'll have a list of data sources to pick from, and the list will include tables and queries. It's nice to see which are which. I'm very sorry for taking so long to reply to your comment. I wasn't very good at keeping up with the comments 4 years ago, but I've been trying to make an effort to get back to everyone. If you still need help with this problem, please feel free to submit your question on my web site at 599cd.com/TH.
