Hi, I followed your excellent tuto, and I encountered an issue. When you changed the paths in index.php with the php synthax $this->baseurl to set the right css file's path, when you refresh the page you have the template but not me... it still stay as messy text. The base url (in video in min 36:39 you specifies what baseurl correspond to, but we don't see what's you show in navigator url bar cause the video is not high enough bigger to include this one). So i would like to know if the base url = "localhost/oursite" or just "/oursite"??? Thank you

I'm wondering if you can post the php that works with Joomla 3.3.3? I'm seeing a lot of comments saying that THIS php doesn't work with 3.3.3 and I have 3.3.4... I'm not sure what the issue is? But I copied all of your code so now I'm a bit confused. I still love the video though. The process is VERY similar to Drupal templates now with new Joomla.

Joomla 3 comes with both bootstrap and jquery so you certainly should not be using a local version. It can break your template with a change, it is redundant, and adds unneeded code.

Brad, I have been searching the web for days looking for a good tutorial video that shows how to bring a bootstrap template into Joomla 3.x. This is exactly what I was looking for. You have produced an awesome video that is rich in detail and describes exactly what I needed to learn. I hope you will be putting out more video's on this subject because I enjoy seeing your work. I have one question; I didn't see you use the "defined('_JEXEC') or die;" in your index.php file. Is this really necessary? I though it was done for security purposes. Let me know. Thanks for a great video!!!
@xristfxwolf8375
9 жыл бұрын
Rod: The concept of defining JEXEC hasn't changed since Joomla 2.5. Simply put, JEXEC is a variable defined in your php files that prevents users on the web from accessing those files directly. Technically they can access your template's index.php file through their browser, but execution of the file will end immediately because JEXEC is not defined within the template. If you don't understand the technical reasons as to how this works, it's not a big concern, but just make sure you have the code in place.

By asking questions, it shows you how interested I am with your tutorial :) I am wondering why you type the css and js path following all the several times instead of just "../css/..." and "../js/..." relative URLs? Is there a reason? Even if the intention is to do the same with other templates, the path within each template seems identical. Just a matter of going up one level and then back in the corresponding folder, isn't it?

Very clearly explained, followed this 100% using output design from PineGrow. Matched module positions to standard Joomla Artisteer naming positions/conventions and thus converted from Artisteer to Bootstrap in one half of a day so big thanks. PineGrow is fantastic as a bootstrap design editor. Do recommend as a starter into doing this and following the general principles set out in this video. I also like the inclusion of errors, quick cycle fixes and re-tests shown by Brad = true pro.

I finally got it. But I had to use another method to see my Jumbotron template. I had to copy my folders and files in the joomla tmp folder and then from the joomla admin panel, install the extension from the tmp folder. Everytime I tried the zip file it failed with the Joomla xml file not found error. Now I was using 7-zip application to create the .zip file (yes .zip, not .7z) and it never worked. But no problem from the tmp folder with no zip archived file.

+linuxmq Can I ask you a question as I think that I'm having the same issue as you? I've followed this tutorial to the "letter" but when it comes to uploading it, I get an error message that reads "JInstaller: :Install: File does not exist ...................\tmp\install_5657df7dc4f4d\html" & "Template Install: Could not copy files from the files source". Did you upload the files to the directory using something like FileZilla or is there another trick that I'm missing?
@linuxmq3945
8 жыл бұрын
Hi Bigfell4, I first extract the zip file. I did not install from loading the zip file as this was a no go for me. I did not use ftp. I have ssh access so work directly from my shell user account on the server. I guess that if you have a share hosting it is probably difficult to have a ssh access with all the required shell commands available. Usually the limited shell you could have might not allow much. I have my own dedicated server and I set up restricted shell that includes most if not all the shell commands a user might require, mv, cp, tar, unzip, touch, cat, drush, etc... I intend on providing hosting services if you are interested.

did you use bootstrap 2 or 3? if 3 is used, it makes many joomla core modules and components not display right, because joomla still has bootstrap 2 in it's core. need to do many overrides to convert many of the components and modules, and in some cases, overrides are not enough, because you can't directly edit some labels and input boxes, so i use jquery to handle those few scenarios. i still haven't converted everything yet though. it's a lot of stuff. wonder if there are any tutorials or downloads to have fully bootstrap 3 template with a handful of the core joomla modules and components displaying in bootstrap 3 style. my method is a bit more involved because i like javascript files at the bottom, not in the head. if anyone wants me to package up the demo template i made to give to you, so that you have a quick start to work from let me know.
***** you have to create a database and import the sql file then change joomla's config file to read from the database you created.
@le-ar

***** not sure how you are using the term assets, but it's like a quickstart so you don't have to install modules and configure them or configure other default modules that come with joomla. also so you don't have to configure menus and components etc.
