You will need the credentials for an administrator account, have an admin do it for you or change your account type so you can do things with your account.

I can't delete certain files. It says only an admin can do that. I set up an admin acct using your instructions but when I log in to it I can't see the files I want to delete! This is infuriating! Why did Microsoft do this? Makes no sense. I you buy their product or license it you should be able to do that.

Are these files you want to delete on the desktop or documents etc. of the other user account? If so you will need to go to that accounts user folder under C:\users\username to find their files while logged in as administrator.

This will store your password locally instead of using the one tied to your Microsoft account. You can also change your password without having to do it from the Microsoft website. It also prevents your basic Windows settings from being transferred over to another computer as it would if you were to log on to both computers with the same Microsoft account. I'm sure there are still ways for Microsoft to get some type of information from you though. You can also go to the Windows settings app and then to Privacy and security and disable anything you don't want active from there.

My Accounts > Family page doesn't have "Other users" (this video is 2 yrs old, no surprise), anyone know how to set up a local account otherwise? I just need to separate my laptop into 2 different uses, both are for myself but with a different desktop/file system for each "user" instance. I need one for work and the other for a hobby. Thanks.

It is actually still there but is now its own section called Other Users. If the account you are logged in as is not a local admin, I don't think you will see the Other Users option.

Why is it that all my data and folders are under the user name of an account I stopped using long ago, after factory resetting about 3 times, each with intentions of never using these previous accounts/emails again and just making 1 brand new fresh account/email with nothing tied to it. Under my group or user names it shows what I assumed was my current account called (1) Administrators(MYPCName/Administrators) full control (2)SYSTEM that seems to have full control as well, denied access for very few things like transferring files games movies to an portable hard drive and sometimes as little as just deleting a programs, apps, movies. (3) Users (MyPCName/Users) without modify/write full control (4) (Everyone) also without modify/write full control And none of these accounts have special permissions checked

@OnlineComputerTips

Yes you can configure a local admin account and then remove any other accounts. Just make sure to copy any files over from those accounts under C:\Users\username that you want to keep. Microsoft is pushing back at people using local accounts instead of Microsoft accounts so just be aware that they may remove that option in the future. I dont see how they could get away with it though because there would be riots!

Im not able to see the family and other options in my settings menu... I had an administrator but I mistakenly deleted that windows account. I made a local account and then I realized I don't have an administrator. I went to settings and then accounts but was not able to see family and other users... I tried to reset the PC or even tried to bypass the admin password but it didn't work so can you help me to get the family and other users back on the settings menu! Yeah and also I can see the deleted account but when I click to change the account it takes me back to the local account which I made. I would appreciate it if you could help me!

If user 1 is a local admin then they will be able to see the files for user 2. You can add a deny security setting for user 1 on user 2s files but user 1 can still possibly get to them if they know how to get around it.

Right click the folder and go to Properties and then the security tab. From there you can choose user 1 and then the deny boxes. Just be careful when doing this because you can lock that user or yourself out of things if you don't do it right.

Yes because you can make a local user account a standard user or an administrative user after you create the account. You can switch them back and forth too if needed. You will need to be using an admin account to change a standard user to an admin user though.

@@Summersolstice1826 Create a new account for yourself and make it an admin account. Or you can use your Microsoft account to sign in as yourself but make sure it's an admin account as well. Then once your account is ready, log in with it and go to the users and remove her account. You can then remove her profile information such as documents and photos etc. by going to C:\Users\HerUsername. Or you might want to back it up before deleting it if she needs it.
