I love the Orcs. I do own a couple of the Will B packs, I have been thinking about doing something with them, perhaps a tutorial on how to do a medieval village scene with folks wandering around doing their thing... maybe one day in the future.

Question: Can I import other character packs into UMA ? let's say I buy dwarf character outside UMA, can I import that into UMA ?

No, but yes. It is possible to "UMAify" a model, but it is not an automatic process. You need some Blender (or similar skills) to do it.

Hey, very good tutorial. Question: I want to integrate a "recipe loader" script in my character creator UI panel. The aim is to chose only from two or three options that I saved already in the resources folder. Any advice with regard to the syntax? Thanks

The answer to this is depends a great deal on what you mean by "recipe loader" and "UI panel". It would be much easier to answer if you joined out discord at bit.ly/WizardsCodeDiscord and provided a complete description of what you mean (editor vs runtime, user interaction desired etc.)

which version of UMA are you using? and are you using the Addressables package?

What do you mean make? That's me :-P The model is an UMA model, so you can make him like any other UMA. However, he's not a free asset: bit.ly/UMAOrcRace for the model and bit.ly/UMAOrcArmor1 for the armor I've done a few videos on how to create the animations and talking head part, e.g. kzitem.info/news/bejne/y6aP2ohqcF93hno kzitem.info/news/bejne/x6ewnGWEfV-Xh2k kzitem.info/news/bejne/qaR803ibkJ2rgYY and kzitem.info/news/bejne/qGuYxWaXn4Ocp4o

Not sure where to ask this, could ask you directly but it could be of interest to others :) How do you deal with UMA in source control? Do you push your UMA Global library along with any text assets you create? Or do you put even more stuff in source control. I've broken UMA related things quite a few times, and it can be quite difficult to fix (especially if you mess up adressables like I did). Right now I'm thinking about trying to build them in a separate project and copy things over to my main project to keep things cleaner.

Honestly I don't have a good strategy at this time. I'm a one person team so version control for me is ensuring I have my code versioned. I don't have to worry so much about the collaboration aspects. Therefore I focus ensuring my recipes are versioned and I keep a track of which packages I've installed - I no longer import assets using the web browser, I only use package manager which provides a versioned record (I believe this is the only way to do it in 2020, though I'm on 2019 so not verified that). I'd love to hear if other people have a better strategy.
@Gildar76

@@WizardsCode Yeah, package manager is the only option in 2020 by default. This question came up while I was trying out UMA with addressables, and messed up . Had to rebuild my UMA library and now things are still not working as intended. If you ever install addressables, I think you have to stick with it for good :) Trying to remove it broke my global library completely, even though I had a backup right after the package was installed. It's fine now but I'll use full project backups before I mess with this again :)

Urgh that's a pain. I do find the latest version of UMA sometimes loses its library data. I have to rebuild it. But I'm not using addressables and it just works.

In Unity, click on folder in project, scroll down and find UMA, then DCS and create a mesh hider. Name your hider and then edit the hider, paint out the elbows. Attach hider to recipe. Now your elbows should not go through the clothing.

Hey, I downloaded the same Clothing Set because of the nices suits. For the males they work pretty well.. But for the females in running animation, the skin (especially at the elbows) comes through the clothes. You said in your video, such things could be done with a little work. What exactly do I have to do to fix such issues?
@WizardsCode
3 жыл бұрын
You can haav clothing hide the mesh underneath. For items that cover the whole limb, e.g. Pants this can work well. For other items you will need to edit the clothes themselves. kzitem.info/news/bejne/lWagrX6Xhop1gWk

can you save as asset instead of txt? like a prefab?
@WizardsCode
3 жыл бұрын
There is an UMA Power Tools asset in the store that purports to do this. However, I find it is broken more than it work. For most use cases there is no real reason why you wouldn't just save the DNA and Recipes as a txt file and save the UMA-DCS as a prefab with the load config set up. The in-game experience is the same as having a prefab. However, if you do have a specific use case check out Power Tools bit.ly/UMAPowerTools

@@MatthewKrekeAuthor I'm not sure what you mean. An UMA, once instantiated, is a Humanoid model like any other. So whatever you are wanting to do with a character prefab can be done with an UMA prefab. If you need access to the skeleton to set up IK or something similar then you can do that using the Bone Builder, which is a part of UMA.

Are you using HDRP? If so you need to convert the materials just like you do any material not designed for that rendering pipeline. See docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.render-pipelines.high-definition@12.0/manual/Upgrading-To-HDRP.html
