I absolutely adored the flower pen. You took something that was marred and made something beautiful out of it! Bravo madam. You saw the potential and created an awesome work of art!

Love this video to you by the way! I just did my craft knife. I have Grandson’s that are in school. I think I will make some for their teachers. And they both really like working with clay too so maybe the boys and I can work together to make it for the teacher.

@@MichelleRaeLandry Absolutely!!😆 I had a pen kinda melt on me after baking. It just curved badly. Not bad. I’m 1 for 2. Lol. I picked up a box of Bic-round stic grip pens & a pack of ballpoint @ the dollar tree. I’l give it a try.🤷♀️ Only thing I don’t like is no caps fit. But then I was thinking why not try to make some out of clay?! Can’t wait for more videos. I’ve made pens, bowls, earrings, fridge magnets (for our grands), charms for my grandsons backpack. Having a ball!! Thanks so much!! 🥰

@@kryscoffman2885 oh no! Melting pens are not fun! I find I can’t use dollar store pens so be careful. It’s all about what type of plastic the barrel is made out of. I always collect owns from hotels as they are the type that always work. If you have a whole box, I might just bake a plain barrel for 15 minutes as a test run before you put the work into the own! Good luck!

Hi Michelle! Just found you on KZitem and wanted to say “Hi Neighbor!” I am in your same state....town of East Derry! I have been working on and off with polymer clay for about 40 years and I have never read or heard about using alcohol to smooth the finish! I have a polymer clay button and jewelry business I have been recently experimenting with polymer clay pens and will definitely give it (alcohol) a go! I Enjoy your casual and relaxed classes and look forward to putting some of your techniques into play. 😃

Hi there MMMMGood! Sorry for the delayed response... it's been a crazy month. Hi Neighbor! I'm in Merrimack right across the river from you. Holy Moly another Polymer lover in the 603, I'm thrilled about that! For about 5 years I was teaching 50+ clay classes a year but I now just do it for fun and when I feel inspired to share one of my classes online on KZitem. I am overdue for another video and I'm hoping to get one up soon. If you are on IG Follow me at CreativeCottageNH ( my former Clay Business) you'll see many of the classes I taught and tons of clay. I'd love to connect with you there. Peace and Polymer! ;-)

How long did you bake the pen initially to harden the surface? I absolutely love this idea!!!
@MichelleRaeLandry
2 жыл бұрын
The actual pen is not baked… just the outside barrel made from clay which I generally bake for a half hour. After it is 100% cool, which you can do instantly by submerging in ice water, you can then insert the pen.

@@MichelleRaeLandry thank you for responding! Have you ever tried the ink joy gel pens? That’s what I would like to decorate, I just don’t know how the pen casing will hold up in the heat. I’m going to try it though!!

@@MichelleRaeLandry maybe I need to watch more videos! Ha! But if you don’t bake the barrel of the pen, how do you get the clay off the barrel before baking?
@MichelleRaeLandry
2 жыл бұрын
@@amberleeschroeder7516when I say don't bake the pen... I mean the inside bit with the ink in it, the part that has the nib. YES you bake the existing outside of the pen (the barrel) together with the polymer layer on top. (At 4:09 of this video is when you see me build clay onto that casing). As far as Ink Joy pens...I have no idea if they would melt, you would really need to do a test. If you have an pen that maybe is close to dying and you are willing to sacrifice it do a test run... just don't put too much effort in it in case it's a flop and WATCH the baking carefully as melted plastic really stinks. I do talk a lot about which pens to use for this very reason, but I get why you would want to try a "sexier" pen with more colors to play with. I've only used this one type so I wish I could be more helpful in that area.
