Most automotive designs begin as a sketch in one form or another. These sketches tend to consist of a series of lines that represent the designers ideas. The lines that the designer draws can represent any number of elements in the design. These can include but are not limited to changes in the planes of the surface, perforations or holes in the surfaces, door and panel cut lines, the intersection of forms one into another and trailing and leading edges of forms among others.
All of these car design elements begin as an idea in the designer's mind. Often inspired from things outside the automotive realm, designers internalize these inspirational elements and release them as part of new designs.
The video stresses the importance of understanding what you are drawing as you draw especially for aspiring, young designers. Younger designers tend to put lines down on the page arbitrarily not fully understanding what they can or do represent.
The goal of this video is to enlighten young, aspiring car designers to stop and think about what they are putting down on the page, to be more thoughtful in their approach to their automotive design ideas.
