You are so welcome! Good luck with the first documentary! It's a frustrating, confusing but extremely fulfilling process!

I love the fact that you come to the table with something real. I hate when I watch a tutorial that talks about all the fluff and obvious stuff but with no real context around it and waste 30 mins of my time talking about nothing of real value. Your point about crafting situations that will lend themselves to good quotes is really great advice. It helps to get the quotes and emotion needed for the piece but without making it feel fake and scripted. Looking forward to watching more 👌

Thanks for taking the time to watch Ollie! Advice on anything creative has so much nuance to it and every one does it their own way so I find it hard to provide useful insights within digging a little deeper. I’m glad you can relate! I remember struggling so much at getting quotes in the beginning. I was such a nervous filmmaker.. just hoping for the best scenes to naturally unfold. Until I had a chance to look behind the scenes on some shoots for other production companies and then I realized how naturally unfolding events are actually highly structured situations. Blew. My. Mind. 🤯

@@johanssonfilms It really is such a great piece of advice. It's the quotes and moments of human emotion that can really elevate a piece so being able to capture those quotes in an organic way (while also hoping for a particular outcome) definitely stacks the odds of capturing those moments in your favour.

I don't participate in following people who engage in public acts that put themselves in mortal danger by that act. To do so makes me complicit in the event the act results in their death or inspires others, probably less capable, to attempt to duplicate their acts I do agree that Alex Honnold's climbing skills are beyond phenomenal.

To each their own. I find I can learn many life lessons from people such as Alex and other similar athletes without feeling the need to come anywhere close to replicating his impressive feats. It’s more about understanding what drives a guy like that to that extreme. That’s what’s interesting to me.

@@johanssonfilms There are days like this... So many times, I've walked through the youtube and hadn't seen you ever, but today I found you. I really enjoyed seeing your documentary the concerns and tips you talked about in your channel videos in your documentary. We really were enjoying Erik Bradshaw and his achievement. The good and bad moments, the influence on the family life of all he's passion and determination. It really makes us think that alone, we’re not much. Seeing your documentary, I felt like I was also up and down mountains, but of emotions . I realized, in the light of your tips, the "manipulation" you spoke about, but still didn't make me out of the story. I started following you today and will keep exploring your channel. See you. Thank you!

@@johanssonfilms it about a guy who’s life changed dramatically when he viewed a photo a professional photographer took of him during a dip in the sea. It pushed to get into running and a year later he is aiming to do an ironman. Pretty cliche ridden however I do think there is another angle to consider as he told me how he perceives himself now. He is now more body critical so I think it’s very interesting how his change can be viewed as a success but it’s perhaps raised a new challenge that he will have to overcome. I’m considering themes of acceptance and by careful what you wish for.
