If anyone is unable to select subdivide, you have to be in Edit Mode. Also, for the shader, use the shader tab.

I really like this new fast tutorial trend overall, but it can easily go a bit overboard. This already a very good video would've been a fantastic one had you taken just a bit more time to say things in a bit more relaxed manner :) And maybe added a couple sentences explaining a few more things (e.g. why do you have to swap the color channels in the material etc). I'd say this would've been perfect as a 2 minute video! But I know it's just a personal preference.. Thanks for the great video!

I think this helped me decide that 5-minute tutorials are just the right size! I totally appreciate the long version AND the one minute version since they both scratch different itches. (I guess I'm just one of those blender guys who likes a little background without all the noob, baby steps.) Thanks a lot for this!

Fast style tutes are great for quick overview of what's involved and for a bit of introspection on personal efficiency. Even better if backed up by longer style videos. The first Dylan Neill video I watched was the 3D Photo Effect one, which at ~30min was twice as long as I usually have patience for but the solid practical tips kept me watching. I'd love to hear how you would tackle **large** areas of grass. I have my own simple mix of grass shades that's passable at a distance and particle systems for close-up's. Still experimenting with ways to blend the two and end up with something that doesn't kill performance.

Nice, I'm still working thru the original one. Is it normal when you render out a single image for it to look a bit blocky/low-res? I'm guessing that doesn't show up in an animation.

I love both versions. For me fast versions help, if I can download them. And the watch them while pausing - building in Blender - continuing ... For me a fast video is valuable only if all the information is in it. Or if there is the long version in addition to look up something. I am still overwhelmed by your great idea, how to make a big ocean. As this was something i was struggeling with. Great!

awesome, but one question, what if I wanted the ocean to be red? Like in evangelion? One way I thought is to change the environment to RGB red then it makes the ocean red, and put a background image as plane for the sky..
@RhollidayGames
4 жыл бұрын
You could probably color correct the HDRI he included with the more detailed version of the tutorial if you want the atmo to be red as well. If you just want the ocean I imagine you'd be better off adding some coloration to the water shader directly.
